Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

No picture/sound Can turn the tv on, no picture/sound. "Unusable Signal, Signal Strength 50" appears on the screen. About 5 months ago I had the ballast replaced along with the color wheel and the lamp. The wheel and lamp were not bad. I bought and replaced the lamp. I then had to call a repairman. He did the rest. Thanks for your suggestions.

I had to post again because I accendentially hit the "Accept" button.

  • JGFan Jan 06, 2008

I will try. I went to that link for the service manual, but not sure as to where to go.

  • JGFan Jan 06, 2008

I just called RCA using the # in the owners manual and they just told me that they don't send out service/repair manuals. What # did you call??

  • JGFan Jan 12, 2008

I tried all week to find a tuner. I talked to the people that replaced the ballast and color wheel in August '07 and they said I should put it back together and have them come look at it. I did and know it works just fine. For now. Thanks for your suggestions.

you should rate someone else in that other post or he will get paid for doing nothing

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Jan 06, 2008

You will need to call RCA and order the service manual sorry,,

apperently no one has a download for free, RCA might only ask for a few dollars for it or they will send it for free if you

If you dont have much experience i will suggest you call a repairman ,, but if you want to try your self you can get the service manual from rca

The tuner is a circuit board

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Jan 07, 2008

I spoke to RDMA eletronics in trinidad and they too agreed its your internal tuner.. so that reason for your problem is a guranteed one

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Jan 07, 2008

Sorry i meant the tuner is labeled on the circuitboard or at least it should be

Sony KDS-R60XBR1 making noise

Sounds like the ballast is whats causing the issue the leads are probably charred at where the leads attach to the lamp connection. Pretty common problem when you hear that sound. I would check the ballast and if you need one you can get one from

How to tell if ballast is bad on samsung dlp tv

It is a common practice that the ballast to repalce along with new bulb. There is no way to check the internal winding short of ballast. Repalce both at the same time. If ballast has any damage, it will surely ruin the bulb too.

After a period of time, vertical lines appear on the screen. Looks like jail bars. Sometimes turning the TV off, then back on will clear it. All channels. I replaced the projection bulb about 6 months...

no solution, same sounding problem though. last year we were getting lines through the screen and flickering and then the bulb burned out. had it replaced, 2 months later it did it again (they wouldn't stand behind the bulb so we had to buy a whole new one) this time had the bulb and ballast replaced because the repair guy said usually you have to replace both (why didn't they replace them both in the first place?) .. a year later and it's doing it again.. we get the flickering of the screen going on and off and horizontal lines that flicker across it. after turning the TV off and on a few times it seems to go away (or after it warms up)

i know know if i should order another bulb and ballast and spend the money for it to happen again or if it could be something else

let me know if you find a solution..

I have a 2 year old Sony Bravia KDS 50A3000 rear projection TV. We replaced the bulb about 2 months ago and now all of a sudden the bulb will go off and we loose the picture for 35 seconds, nothing happens...

well if you replace the lamp 2 months ago this could be a ballast issue go to your back of the TV and if you ear a weird mechanical noises like a tick, tick when you are down there this is the ballast.

Panasonic PT50LC14 Power issue

We have a PT-50LC14. We replaced the lamp 6 months ago with a TY-LA1000 bulb we bought from a company online (not directly from Panasonic) and it worked for 6 months. Then the TV started turning off on it's own...sometimes it would not come back on for an hour or so. We called the lamp company and we luckily had 1 day left on our 6 month warranty!! They sent us a replacement bulb and the TV would never power on. It would try to power up, but the bulb would never ignite. The power light would flash and then the lamp light would flash every 5 seconds. I had a friend that has the same type of TV and she ordered her bulb directly from Panasonic. I borrowed her lamp and it powered right up. We then called the online company and they sent us yet another replacement bulb, and I tried it today and it works. It seems like these TVs are very particular about the type of bulb used. Next time, we will be ordering ours directly from Panasonic and just paying the extra $100. We have been without our big screen for 2 very long months! I had called a local tv repair shop, called Panasonic directly, and read through countless internet forums, and I thought we were going to have to replace the ballast or get a ballast repair kit and start messing with the circuit board.

What is your TV input connection? Are you using Antenna? Cable? Dish?

The Unusable Signal sounds like the TV is not getting a signal. Does your TV have a built in HD Tuner?

If you are using Antenna you might want to try setting up the connections and it should search for quality channels that you get good signal strength. If you are on channel 2 and there is no over the air channel 2 it may say "unusable signal".
