HP compaq n6110 running Windows XP. Regularly run symantec anti-virus/spam blocker, but something's gotten into the system that is pernicious & seems to mimic a microsoft-type program, called "security tools," you have to pay w/cc to download this "protection"?

These are typically antivirus-viruses and are become MUCH more frequent lately. Best thing you can do to be sure is visit the two sites below and download the free versiosn of the programs, then update/run both and reboot if necessary. This should clear up your problem.
