Question about Toshiba Satellite P35-S609: Pentium 4-3.2 GHZ, 512MB RAM, 80GB Hard Drive, DVD-RW/CD-RW, 56K Modem, Network ... (SATELLITEP35S609PENTIUM) PC Notebook
The screen does not come on. If I tap the little rubber shut off located at the back left top of the keyboard the screen lights up and then goes off. If i keep tapping the screen wiill come on and stay for a few seconds and go off again. If I plug in a monitor I can use the laptop.
I also had the same problem. I replaced the Inverter for $13 on eBay and it took all of ten minutes to install. My daughter is using the computer right now.

Sounds like you have diagnosed your own problem to me. Its not the video card or you wouldn't be able to use the monitor, so it has to be a bad switch. If you can remove the bezel covering the switch you my be able to spray some contact cleaner into the switch and get it working again. Removal of most bezels starts with removing the screws on the back side of the lid hinges and lifting the bezell until it un-snaps from the housing.
Good luck. let us know how you make out.
