I have a Sharp Aquos 32-inch LCD television I purchased three years ago. For the past several months (sporadically) when I turn the television on, the picture immediately disappears though the sound remains. If I wait for several minutes and turn the set off and then on, everything is fine, but I have to wait for several minutes. Also now and then even when the set has been on for and hour or two, the picture just disappears and requires that I shut it off and on. Aquos denies that there is anything wrong with the set and says is may be something wrong with my cable television provider. The set is past the warranty, but I would still like to know if this is something that may be related to the cable or if it is the Aquos TV itself. The problem did seem to occur with the switch from analog to digital, but that may be coincidence. I've seen similar problems discussed here, but the answers vary.
The main power supply regulator section circuit fault. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

Sharp list no issues or service tips for this model but I am sure most freeze ups are and issue of weak cable signals or defective cable receivers. If this has truly been elimnated the main digital pcb in the TV could be issue or more likely the TV may need the latest software upgrade. This is most likely only able to be facilitated by a Sharp auth. service center.

This unit has a chronic problem with the insulator material used on the heat sink on the ic's on the AV Bd. The unit must be disassembled and the AV bd. removed. The insulation on especially IC 2502 breaks down and must be cleaned off of the bd. and the ic and new insulator part # PSPAZA663WJKZ must be ordered and used as the insulator pad. Thanks to this forum, I was able to confidently contact Sharp and get my TV fixed.
My 32" LCD had the same problem (sound but no picture) and was out of warranty, however I phoned Sharp UK and suggested that it was a manufacturing defect rather than component failure and should be repaired free of charge - which they did!!

i was having these same problems with the screen going black, and i found that when i hit the back of my tv it would work sometimes. so, i improvised on some of the advice on this page and so far no problems. here is what i did (its very easy):
1. lay the tv on the floor and take off the back panel. (i think 12 screws)
2. on the right side of the tv (as you are looking at the back) you will notice a large metal covering that is held in place by 6 screws. unscrew these and remove the metal cover.
3. you will notice that the three screw holes on the left side of the board have some sort of metal or solder around them, in sort of a star pattern. when i looked closely i noticed that most of the metal (solder) was tarnished, or kind of blackened. (this must mean that the ground screws werent getting a good connection and this would explain why it would work sometimes when i hit it because it would vibrate the screws enough to get a good connection! )
so, take a pencil eraser and erase all the black or tarnish off the metal surrounding the screw holes. thats it! (to be safe i took some sandpaper and cleaned up the screw holes on the back of the metal covering, but i dont know if that was necessary)
at this point i followed another gentleman's advice to do a hard reset. this involved unplugging the 8 connections although i dont know if this was really necessary because i believe my problem was a ground issue. i did it just to be safe. his advice is on this site if you want to do this step.
4. i put everything back together and it worked! i performed a soft reset at this point which puts your tv back to factory settings. just go to menu>setup>reset>return to factory settings? yes
this will turn your tv off and back on. that's it. so far so good for me.

GOOD NEWS - - According to the Sharp Technician I just spoke with a "Service Bulletin" went out to all their techs about the sound issue on these Sharp Aquos. I'm having the exact same sound probem and I'm in the process of having the technician come out at no charge so call the number given in Solution #6 and #9 (1-800-237-4277) and keep pressing #1 until you get a technician. Have your serial number ready and they will need your name, address and telephone #. They will then give you a case number and transfer you to dispatch (which closes at 5pm central). Thanks everyone for your help and posts - you made our day!!!
BTW - We also have the problem of the TV turning on and off by itself but the technician said they had not received a service bulletin about that yet.
