Do you have bluetooth turned on and allow pairing?
Apple suggests this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1838
Also many older and "cheaper" bluetooth devices do not work with iPhone. Check out this article: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13544_3-9740876-35.html
