You need to do a reset.

You can reset your ipod by holding down the menu and select (round button in the center) buttons down for at least 10 seconds. You'll see an apple logo flash, that's when you stop pressing the buttons. It will shut off, then back on.

My ipod nano third generation is frozen

You should not plug the ipod to pc while it is playing because it is switches from the playing mode to sync and charging mode you can not play and use the ipod while it is connected with the software without ejecting it from itunes. Do a reset by pressing and holding the center and menu buttons at the same time until the screen goes back and apple logo pops up. This should reset your ipod and fix the problem.

Frozen Ipod

These are for Nano, but they apply to all iPods:
Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore
Remember these five basic suggestions if you have a problem with your iPod nano. If
one of the following doesn’t help, read on for solutions to specific problems.
â Reset your iPod nano. See “General Suggestions,” below.
â Retry with a different USB port if you cannot see iPod nano in iTunes.
â Restart your computer and make sure you have the latest software updates
installed.
â Reinstall iPod and iTunes software from the latest versions on the web.
â Restore your iPod nano. See “Updating and Restoring iPod Software” on page whatever.

Help me pleeze

Make sure that your iPod’s hold button isn’t on. (little switch at the top left corner of the iPod). If this is on, you’ll see a little orange area at the top of the iPod nano and a lock icon on the iPod screen. If you see either of these, move the switch back and see if this fixes the problem. If that doesn't fix it:

Hold down the Menu button on the clickwheel and the center button at the same time. Hold these together for 6-10 seconds. This should restart it. You’ll know it's restarting when the Apple logo appears on-screen.
