Question about Standard (CRT) Televisions

1 Answer

PS2 I've connected a playstation 2 console to a TV (Amstrad widescreen) but it has no aerial connected and I cant get it to work and wondered if an aerial was needed for it to work. It was previously connected to a small portable with its own aerial and it worked ok but now I've bought a new bigger tv I cant seem to get a channel for a picture. thanks

Re: PS2

By an aerial do you mean a converter?
For the neew TV's you don't need one. Just plug it in using A/V cable (yellow is video, red and white are audio). Be sure you take note of which input you are plugging it into on the TV, and then use your TV's remote to change the video input (usually will be labeled video or TV/Video on the remote) to the one you plugged the PS2 into.

How can I hook up my ps2 to my Philips Magnavox TV?

First, you'll need a PS2 composite AV cable (Red, yellow, and white cable). If you don't have one, you can get one on Amazon for pretty cheap. (
Next, plug the flat end of this cord into your PS2, and the red, yellow, and white plugs into their corresponding outlets on the TV. There may only be yellow and white outlets on your TV (in which case they will be on the front). Then, turn both the TV and the PS2 on and see if its working!
If you don't have red, yellow and white outlets on your TV, you will need an RF adapter for the PS2. (like this one on eBay (
Hope that helps.

The aerial port does not work.

It is possible the tuner or antenna connection is bad---If you can call up the menu with the remote set needs to be switched from cable etc to air or antenna and channels programed------not on the rear input connection but for the tuner in the set (presume it has a tuner if antenna connection of any type is there.

I get poor reception and wonder if there's a way to boost TV reception.

There are aerial boosters but they not only boost the aerial signal but the noise as well. Some work, some don't. The best option is a new aerial and cable.

Cannot get 27" jvc av-27530 tv to recognize playstation 2

Do you have the remote? You will need to cycle through the inputs to get to video 1 or 3. You might have the buttons on the front of your tv that says tv/video or tv/vcr. If not go down the channels past 1 and it might automatically switch through the video input selections. For any of these solutions have the PS2 plugged into video 1 and turned on. Hope this helps.

Av button not working

you could try connecting the ps2 and see if it will swith to av automatically.usally these telly/dvd units toggle between tv,av,and dvd.if this fails, grab a rf converter unit from a ps1,connect this to the aerial socket and tune it in to a spare channel.guaranteed to work!!!.hope this helps, regards, steve.

"No Signal" but aerial working ok on other tv in house!

Your son more than likely changed the input source. You may be able to change it back by pressing the channel up/down button or you may have to enter the menu on the tv and change inputs that way. PS's will usually connect using a video input using a red/white/yellow cords. You may also want to ensure the connections are in their proper place as I do not know how savvy your son is at changing the setup over to play his PS. If you use a modulator to connect to the TV-either the PS or aerial- ensure that it is powered up also. I hope this has been of assistance to you and thanks for using Fix Ya. If I can be of further assistance let me know.

I have a ps2 also so just hook up the yellow and white plugs. It will work if you connect those 2 right but you must have a remote to turn it to game mode or no lucc. This is where i'm at right now trying to find my remote..hahaha
