usb cdrom on the on the optiplex 760 keeps disconnecting. how can i correct this problem?

Could be Hardware or Software problem, try below suggestions 1 at a time to pinpoint the problem.
Hardware:
Hardware:
- Restart Computer with USB CDRom not attached. Then attach.
- Make sure power connector to USB CDRom is firmly connected.
- Change to diffent power outlet for power supply of CDRom
- If connected to USB Hub, disconnect and connect directly to the computer.
- Try a different USB port on the computer
- Use a different USB cable (if using an extender, disconnect) Cable should be 6 foot cable or shorter.
- Try a different external CDRom drive to verify it is not a problem within that unit.
- Do windows update. Also Choose CUSTOM update (3rd option is drivers). Update all drivers available.
- Download most recent drivers from manufacturers website and install.
