Question about PC Laptops
I have a 3 year old Compaq Presario R3000. Since last 3 days, it's having an issue with the display. The screen always stay black and the back light never comes on but I can still make out an image on the LCD. It’s dark, but the image is still there.
The laptop is booting properly and I can hear the Windows Startup sound and hardly see the images and my desktop image
Please let me know what could have gone wrong with this and it would be great if you can let me know when I can purchase the parts reqd.
I had the same problem and the solution was pretty funny! All it was, was the little thingie that gets pressed down as you close the lid on the laptop got wedged in the hole so it didn't pop out when I opened the lid! Solution......simply pop the thing out with a paper clip!

The screen light may be back, and you might need to buy a new lcd monitor for it, but i would try this first before coming to that conclusion. try pressing the function button (fn) and then pressing the brighter button ( an up arrow with what looks like a sun or a gear.)

If that does not work you might try an fl inverter, before replacing the display.
The inverter provides power to the fl tube that lights up the display.
HP parts surfer can help to find the correct part.
I would recommend sending in for repair unless you feel very confident about taking it apart.

I had a problem on a compaq presario r3000, the screen was not showing anything, just black but it responded to power, i could hear the sounds of the fans and the hdd. i dismantled the laptop and blew it using a blower thinking that maybe it had a shot but to no avail, i removed the cd-rom thinking maybe it was causing the problem but it didn't work. after 2 hours on the laptop, i just thought of moving the RAM from under the keyboard to under the laptop and i powered the machine on and it went into windows,
at one time i thought it was the motherboard, the graphics card, the memory, the processor but i didn't have spare components to test with and i was almost giving up, so my guess now is that the RAM slot under the keyboard is damaged.
