I just purchased this AV receiver; my first one. I am having troubles understanding how to use the remote and also set up the menus to line up my video devices and audio. I have an XBOX 360 (svideo), DVD player with ( Svideo&Coax audio) and Digital Cable TV receiver (svideo) as video inputs and a 5 channel speaker system. All are connnected
and all combinations actually show video and drive audio - except its trial and error with me hitting the Video Select key on the remote and the Input keys on the top of the remote. And I dont fully understand how the yellow keys on the back of the remote are different from the front. The manual is not that helpful. Is there a place that provides more information on how to use this device? or can you help me with some basics. thanks.
I've got the Cable signal in through the receiver (Coax Audio - Composite Video) to my TV set and it works fine. My CD player goes through just fine, BUT
I can't get the DVD video signal through... I have audio when I connect composite (red/white) but no image with component (red/blue/green). Also can't get the PS2 to play (Composite red/white/yellow).I've got the Cable signal in through the receiver (Coax Audio - Composite Video) to my TV set and it works fine. Most owners manuals are not that clear to most people. I would suggest getting the mailing address to Denon customer technical service online. Consult them as to questions you have on unit or remote

Logitech recommends that zone 2 is controlled using device mode on your Harmony remote. Controlling zone 1 and zone 2 simultaneously within activities may lead to the AV Receiver turning on and off unexpectedly as you switch between activities. For example, if you try to turn on zone 2 within an activity, it may turn on or off zone 1 and vice versa. Controlling zone 2 in device mode will prevent this from happening.
You may reset the unit to factory setting. Hold buttons "Speaker" and "SpeakerB"and turn on power switch. Release buttons after 5 seconds. You will loose all your setting and need to do configuration again.
First lets make sure the remote is in the right mode, in the center of the remote are two slider switches, one on the left and one on the right
make sure the one on the right is in the Audio position and switch on the right should be in the cd position if this does not help check out the link and page 25 http://www.usa.denon.com/AVR-588-OM-E_102.pdf
Are you connected with video cables to a tv or "monitor" this is more than likely were the setup is visible for speaker configuration, input assignment etc, most denon receivers work this way so I would suspect you need to re-check the video connection until a set-up picture appears.
works great, plenty of plug-ins, easy set up, but you get 2 hdmi ins 1
out. hdmis' work great one cable for sound and video but the denon
avr588 doesn't accept sound through the hdmi cable.(it's noted in the
manual) why not? i don't understand. so you go with optical or coaxial
for audio. it works but extra cables.
FIRST, IF YOUR USING HDMI CONNECTIONS IN THE DENON HDMI SETUP YOU HAVE TO TURN THE AUDIO DELAY ADJ. ON
SECOND, THE DELAY TIME ADJ, FOR OTHER SOURCES IS LOCATED ON PG 27 IN THE MANUAL, HERE IS THE LINK TO DENON SITE WITH MANUAL http://www.ca.denon.com/AVR-588-OM-E_102.pdf
the denon 587 has 2 optical (toslink) inputs and 2 digital coax. These are surround sound cables basically, it's the only way to get true 5.1 dolby or dts.
connect cable box, and the samsung to the sony using hdmi. then connect the cable box and the samsung to the denon receiver with optical cable. And that's it.
nice gear. Without further information, i am going to describe the best setup possible with your equipment.
