When i start up my laptop, it does it's usual start up but then closes down and there are only a few options, i've tried them all and none work, what do i do?

- There is a an error message, something about windows
cannot start due to something or other, the options are: Safe Mode, Start Windows Normally(last succesful load up), Sade Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt There is also a countdown to windows loading up, NONE OF THESE OPTIONS WORK, im puzzled what to do as it just refuses to start.Nov 09, 2009

- I appear to of got a couple of new options, now the error message is different, im going to try all the options, when i tried one of them it says to un-install some defragmentation thing or anti-virus software, how am i supposed to do that without logging in though?Nov 14, 2009

- Hmm, okay but how do i get online in the first place? The only way im posting comments is on this main computer at my house, is there any way i can do it on this?

Have you tried to start in Safe Mode? This can be useful to narrow down the source of the problem, if it is software-related. Hold the F8 key down while starting and eventually you should get a screen that lists several options (like you described); choose Safe Mode with Network Support. Does the computer start fairly normally, but with maybe screwed up screen, that says "Safe Mode" in each corner? Do you do anything to prompt this shutting down? Does it still do this in Safe Mode? Questions, always questions ...
