If I shut off the blower on my gas furnace do I have to shut down the whole furnace

Turn of the system at the thermostat. If you turn off the blower, assuming you mean at the tstat, there's no need to turn off the pilot. If blower is running and won't stop, even if turned off at tstat, turn off power by any means necessary, and pilot does not need to be turned off. A "standing pilot" is made to stay lit at all times, running or not.

Colman gas furnace wont light

Is it natural gas or propane? If propane, make sure you are not out of gas. Does it have electronic ignition or a manual pilot? if pilot, make sure the pilot flame is still lit and the control knob is turned to the "On" position. If it has electronic ignition, shut off the power to the furnace and then turn it back on and see if resets and lights.

Pilot and burner light then gas shut off model 7900

How many degrees before it reaches desired temp, does it shut off? A thermostat is designed to shut the furnace off a couple/ few degrees before it reaches set temp. It has what is called a heat anticipater, which shuts the burner down, and lets the blower use the remaining heat from the heat exchanger to bring it up to desired temp making it more efficient. If it is more than a few degrees, replace the thermostat. You can jump out the red and white wires to confirm the faulty thermostat. If by doing this, the furnace never shuts down, until you separate the red and white wires. That confirms a faulty thermostat. Hope this helps someone.

How to light pilot on Dayton furnace and then start furnace

If this is a standing pilot system, turn the gas valve to pilot position. push in the knob & hold while lighting pilot...keeping holding knob down for a minute... this will pick & hold the gas valve. Let go of the knob & see if the pilot stays lit, if it does, then turn the knob to on position & the furnace should start if there is a call for heat from the thermostat

FURNACE CYCLING ON AND OFF ..

I would check furnace filter first. If that looks good i would check the thermostat. To check thermostat turn power off to furnace then take thermostat off the wall and connect wires labbled R & W together then turn power on and check furnace to see if it runs for more than a couple of minutes. If so install a new thermostat. If that doesn't work let me know and i can give you a couple more thing to try.
