Question about Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

About creating setup disk

I have previously installed Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium edition on my notebook, by the manufacturer.
I want to format the system volume and install a fresh copy of OS
How can I retrieve installed OS as a set of setup files on a dvd, so that I can use that dvd as a installation disk ?
Is it possible to create a installation disk from a installed copy of OS on a hard drive ?
If not, is there any other way to install a fresh copy ?
eg. just copy-paste of windows files to/from a dvd on a formatted partition will do ?

Re: about creating setup disk

Nop sorry you cant do that. Even if you could you would end up with the same operating system that you have now which i pressume is playing up and running slow?

Some manufacturers put a recovery partition with the install files on that. All you have to do is boot from it
If you go to the control panel then sysytems and maint and then admin tools then computer management then disk management you should be able to see if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive.

If you do then there will be an option in bios or during boot f12 maybe) to boot from it.

If not then you need to have a vista disk to install. The manfacturer should be able to provide one for you or reinstalll vista onto the hd for you.

hope that helps?

Computer will not start reboot and select proper boot device i dont have a boot disk

You *DO* have a "boot-disk".

Put the original Microsoft Vista Home Premium DVD-ROM into your drive, and tell the computer to boot from the CD/DVD drive.

How to reformat the computer?

To reformat the windows vista. There are two options to approach the reformat:
  • Option #1: Boot from the Windows Vista DVD. This is more complicated to do, but it destroys all data and partitions.
  • Option #2: Re-install Vista without leaving the desktop. This preserves the previous installation in a folder called Windows.old. Not all info is wiped, however, and you can't destroy your partitions.
First, restart your system. When the computer starts to boot, look for an option before you get to the Windows screen that reads: “Setup” “CMOS,” or “Bios”. This varies between manufacturers. For example, on the boot screen, it says:
“F2 =Setup”.
The option will flash by quickly so be ready for it and react quickly. You may need to reboot a few times to catch it.
Once in the BIOS, look for a setting that says "Boot" or "Boot Sequence". You might have to dig through the menus with your keyboard’s arrow keys to locate the setting. In the listed as Boot Sequence. And to navigate to Startup, then Boot, and then Boot Priority Setting.
When you find the setting, change your DVD drive so that it occupies the top of the list. The hard drive that contains Windows Vista should be listed as second in the boot list.
And put the Windows Vista installation disc in the designated drive. Now, select the Save Changes and Exit option in the BIOS. The computer will restart and will attempt to read the optical drive you just assigned as the first bootable drive.
The system will use the Windows Vista disc to boot and the reformat and reinstall process will start. But You will need to reinstall any programs that are not bundled with Windows Vista and reinstate your preferences and personal files after reformatting the computer and reinstalling Vista.

Hi again.
You are not going to be able to recover the system without the CD as there is no recovery partition for that model Dell machine.
You can purchase a recovery disk at minimal cost to yourself from here>>>>>>

I know this is not the answer you were looking for but this is the only option you have at this moment in time.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

My PC with Vista Home Premium is caught in a loop

One of the updates is not installing properly. The only thing you can really do in this case is to use your Windows Vista installation disk and try to either repair or restore to a previously known good restore point. Hope this helps.

How to upgrade from Vista Basic to Vista Premium.

You need a Vista premium disk to upgrade to Vista premium.

Just instert the Vista premium disk and start the installation.

If installation does not start, you will need to boot from setup CD, sometimes you have to change the bios boot sequence in bios settings, to start the installation from CD.
