Clicking or 'chatter' normally indicates a 'low battery' condition, and can also include dirty connections at the battery. Make sure cable ends are clean by disconnecting cables and cleaning connection surfaces with a wire brush, re-assemble and use new clean hardware, tighten securely. Charge the battery for an hour or two, or you can jump start with your automobile.
Most lawn mower batteries last a period of 2-3 years, so you may be nearing the end of it's useful period.
