My Ativa DQ61Mn will not power up. I check other equipment which is connected to the same power source and they power up. Is there a reset button somewhere?

The light beam from the photocell that checks if there stiil is paper to be shred is either clogged by paper dusrt, or there is still some paper pieces left in the shredder wheels. Remove it, or clean it.

Be sure to remove the power cord before attempting to clean, the wheels can easily chomp off your finger!!!

For me, I had to move the 'black thing' in the center of the shredder at the top out of the way with a screwdriver. The black thing, whatever it is, seemed stuck against the top. So, once I moved it out of the way, it works. That may not be the right thing to do, but it worked for me.

Where is the feed sensor located

There are 2 methods. One is a mechanical arm that is lifted by the paper.
More often there is an LED light at one end of the ffeed to the cutters, and a sensor at the other end. It may be that the sensors are dirty - use a cotton bud dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the sensor light(s) and heads
Give a quick spray to cutters with WD40 Replace - turn on - and run in

Dq61mn feed

On most shredders ideal unjamming would be by trying the reverse, if that fails there's 2 options: 1 - opening the unit by removing screws (usually 5) and using small narrow flat screwdriver carefully clearing out all the stuck paper/cardboard from in between two rollers, but be carefull and make sure the power cord is NOT plugged into wall socket. 2 - without dissassembling the unit spray some WD-40 into the shredders feed opening and let that cardboard soak for a while. WD-40 will soak into cardboard and any stuck paper and will loosen it, you might need to spray couple of times allowing to soak in between sprays, but this definitely does the trick. Once sprayed 2-3 times allowing to soak for at least 10 minutes between sprays simply swich the shredder on and use reverse and all stuck paper should come out. Be advised after unit was cleared you must use some spray oil to protect the blades. Once oiled allow unit to run in reverse for at least 2 minutes, the swich it off. 15-20 minutes later your shredder will be good as new!! Hope this helps ;)

Hello my nane is Tom. The shredder doesn't work. It will run in reverse but when I turn it to forward it run for a second or two than stops. I looked and I can't see anything jamed in it.

I got mine to work by running it on reverse for a moment then sliding it to auto. It stopped. Then I did it again. This time auto ran just for a second then stopped. I did it a third time but I had a sheet of paper ready in the feeder. Ran on reverse. Slid it to auto and it took the paper and shred it. I did it a fourth time. Reverse slide auto and feed shred the paper. Fifth time Auto shred the paper without reverse. :)

Won't turn off

The optical switch may be clogged. UNPLUG the machine and remove all shreddings from under the cutters. Look down from the top and in the middle to be sure that there is nothing blocking the "electric eye" located there. Shredding labels or self stick envelopes can leave pieces stuck to the eye.

Shredder runs continuously in AUTO position. It appears to use a photoelectric sensor for AUTO activation. I cleaned the window once with a swab and windex. It worked for a few days but is doing it again...

There are three reasons why:
1. paper particles or oil are still causing the optics to think you are inserting paper. Remove cover and clean thoroughly!
2. Optics are misaligned.
3. Optics are defective.

Shredder won't turn on

ok " if the ready light did not come on it's telling you that there is no power sound like the plug in transformer is no good .

you can check that transformer , with a multimeter, see if you have the right voltage.

Won't run in auto

The facts that the optical sensor is ok, and a high wattage resistor gets hot, indicates a mechanical problem, i.e. it's actually stuck (there may be a different power rating in the cpu, that means that by automatic, it stops by for example 1 Ampere, but by manual, there is no current check, i.e. the cpu delivers what the power supply is able to give. could be several A's, which will in turn burn the motor if you try the manual too long....)
So, unplug the power cord, and try to move the mechanics by hand, and you will discover the problem.
