Re: Vertical lines

The display screen is made of a matrix of elements connected to cables along the side and top. On your unit, some of these many, tiny connections are making contact intermittantly thus losing the elements in that area. These contacts are held in place with just pressure and if that is disturbed, you lose that line of elements. Try squeezing the cabinet of the TV on the outside at the top in the area of the loss and see if that makes a difference. May have to go inside and see if the contact assembly is disturbed or warped or something.
Hope ya fix it!

The thin line image appears when the vertical deflection unit is not operational. This is a major fault for which you will have to take the tv to a repair shop - several components (starting with the vertical amplifier) will have to be replaced. In the mean time do not use the tv, or it may fail completely.

Will not always power up, just clicks and power light flashes. Vertical retrace lines at top 2" of screen. Keeps shrinking and goes completely away after about 5 minutes.

The JVC sets are well known for this type of problem, the tv has a vertical deflection issue needs a few small parts and a touch up on the vertical ic, causes the set to shutdown. I recommend a tv technician for the repair.

Several lines run across the top of the screen

Several lines acroos the screen at the top along with picture is a typical fault. You are seeing vertical retrace lines. Either the supply smoothing capacitor to the power supply given to vertical output Ic or vertical output capacitor connected to the vertical output pin of that Ic may faulty. Usually the supply smoothing capacitor seen faulty. It may be over 1500Mfd eletrolytic capacitor used there. It may get value reduced by 40 percent or so, this falult will occur. Please replace the two capacitors together and will get the result.

Unwanted rectangular black area appears on screen blocking 40% of picture

This could be the result of a partly shorted vertical winding on the deflection yoak.Since the line is on an angle and not straight across.

Or A Police station, where the Radio Transmitter of the Police Station causing the Interference? As I said, there are a variety of reasons.
