Question about GE 16.7 cu. ft. / 473 liter Upright Freezer FUF17DMRWH

1 Answer

Fridge and Freezer running, but not getting cold.

I have a GE side by side fridge, it is about 6 years old.  I've cleaned all the dust from the back and lower front parts. There is plenty of clearance room all around it.
The fridge had run fine until yesterday. Now it is running, but not getting cool at all.
Are their any obvious things I can check or should I just go buy a new one today?

Re: Fridge and Freezer running, but not getting cold.

Make sure your fans are working. one is in freezer section, the other at back by your compressor.

I have a Artic Air White Reach In Freezer. It is not blowing cold air from he top where the cold air comes in. Freezer was at 60 degrees F. I turned the defrost switch to make sure it wasn't in...

Is the freezer itself getting cold.To blow cold air.the freezer should get cold/friezed.the cold air blows from freezer to fridge side.first the freezer side gets cold, then when the freezer side gets enough cool to its set cooling temperature, at that time the defrost cycle starts. In defrost cycle the fan in the freezer starts running and the cool air from freezer starts going to fridge side. There is a ventilation passage between fridge and freezer from where this cool air passes.---------------- If in your case, the freezer is getting proper cold, but its not blowing cold air from freezer to fridge, then possibility is that, there is a blockage in ventilations. But if ventilation its clear, then its defrost problem.First try manual defrost reset procedure. The procedure is as follows: ---- First unplug the unit from main power outlet. Then empty whole unit completely. Then keep both the doors open. Wait for 24 hours. All the ice collected on the coils and in the freezer section will get melted. Clean the water from the sections. Then Connect the power cord of the unit to main power outlet after 24 hours/.Then set the temperature to normal in both fridge and freezer section. It will take near to 4 hours to get run in its proper cooling cycle. Then check, if the problem returns again. Then its defrost board problem. ------------------------- BUT if in your case, the freezer section itself is not getting cold, then the problem is compressor related. The compressor is the part which cools the freezer frost. In the compressor, there is a refrigerant to cool the freezer. If the compressor gets weak or the refrigerant gets low, then it will not cool the freezer, if the freezer is not cool then it will blow warm air from freezer to fridge, in defrost cycle. In that case, the compressor is faulty and its the cause of problem.------------ So you will have to first check , that is your freezer getting cold or per that you can start the troubleshooting.------------------

You can get required parts from from online sites like: --- or from searspartsdirect online site. --------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Ice on back wall of freezer, food not staying completely frozen

Do you have the complete model number from the tag on the freezer, it should be either on the bottom rail visible with the door open or on the side wall near the front. I am trying to look this up to see if it is an automatic defrost model, if so you may need to do more than just unthaw and adjust

Hotpoint Mistral frost free fridge freezer.

This is a little hard for me to understand being a yank and all. 0C is 32 Fahrenheit, right so 4/5 is about 40? make sure everything is working, compressor , evaporator fan motor (the one inside) condenser fan motor (the one outside) if you have one. You should have an adjustment for freezer and one for the fridge sections, right. The fridge section controls what amount of cold air comes from the freezer compartment. Check the vents inside, make sure they are not blocked and they open and close when you adjust the control. If this all checks good then check the thermostat. If the compressor shuts off prematurely, then a new thermostat may be in order. If you think you can do this, find the thermostat, by-pass the wires. this will make the compressor run continuously. After 20 minutes or so it should make the desired temperature or close to it. None of the fans or compressor should turn off while this is by-passed.

Indesit fridge freezer not getting cold (2 years old)

I would first check to see if the evaporator in the freezer is all iced up. If it is thats whay you do not have any cooloing. And If that is the case you have a defrost problem and it is not short on gas. If you see only a few coils on the evaporator frosted up then you do have a leak in the system and my be covered under the manufactures warrenty.
