Hannspree HF-289H LCD Monitor. A few months ago, the button panel started working intermittently. Sometimes the power button would power on/off the monitor, other times it would do nothing. I turned it off last night for the first time in months, and when I turned it on this morning, the power LED turns on, but the video or OSD is not displayed. I've noticed that if I press the top and middle buttons simultaneously, the power LED blinks 4-5 times, but nothing else happens. Anyone know the problem? Thanks in advance.

- Hey there again 12fixlouie. Okay, I've reached a crossroads. I've disassembled the monitor to check for bad capacitors. The capacitors on both the power supply unit and the inverter all pass visual inspection. No distension/bulging, no leaking electrolyte, etc.. Should I replace the capacitors on both pieces of hardware, or one over the other? Thanks again!
conor455, I am sorry to hear that your lc display has been struck down with the "BLACK screen of DEATH". Most likely the "switch-mode-power-supply/inverter supply" has failed!!! If your monitor is out of warranty then i suggest that you find your way to my fixya profile and read some of the responses I and others have already written about the BLACK screen symptom and what you can do to try and repair it!! YOUR DISPLAY IS SICK. The SMPS is in SHUTDOWN mode trying to save itself from further damage and or catastrophic nonrecoverable failure. eg. sparks, smoke, fire!! Leave your monitor OFF and do a little bit of research of BAD electrolytic filter capacitors and other stuff that causes LCD backlight's to fail to light-up. Conor, when you asked "ANYONE KNOW THE PROBLEM?" all I can say is visit YOUTUBE and search for and view some of the longer vid clips of "lcd monitor disassembly and/or lcd monitor repair to help YOU to make a decision as to the fate of your HF-289H. Bye for now. If this info has been of some use, please rate this response on fixya! 12fixlouie aka louie12fix

- conor455, If caps look good, look at some of the other components that are slodered on the SMPS / inverter printed circuit board. Pat particular attention to solder joints that are not "mirror brite" in their finish. Look for "frosty/dull" looking ones which will need to be resoldered to a mirror finish. Also inspect the soldering on all of the larger and more weighty components for either "thermal" or "vibration" fracturing of their solder joints. You will need a large magnifying glass or possibly a "inspection microscope" (10x-20x) to hunt down those things. Make sure you check the power transistors that are near the transformers of the inverter circuit for the frosty look! Report back with your findings. 12fixlouie
