Hard Drive Never Stops Running Even when not engaged.

Toshiba Satellite 135 laptop. My disk is always running & audible. Seems to have started after downloading MS Service Pack 3. Using Vista OS. This is driving me nuts. Is it a PC problem or a software issue? Please advise as still under Manf warranty and need to know if it should go back or how to fix it. Thanks.

Re: Hard Drive Never Stops Running Even when not engaged.

Windows has a indexing service that runs constantly. It is supposed to speed up searches on your computer. I always turn mine off. to turn yours off: right click on the "C" drive, properties, uncheck indexing. Also things running in the background, I disable that I dont need.

When I star up my computer Toshiba a135-S4427, it boots up and then goes to a blank black screen. I am unable to get to the log in screen. It just sits there, I can hear the processors and the fans...

Seems a problem with RAM. Remove your RAM from the slot and start the PC, long beep sounds are audible, then the RAM is OK, else time to buy a new RAM/ memory.
Else Try for the Hard Disk, Check the Hard disk in your's friend's PC, remove his Hard disk and insert yours, if the same problem arises, change the Hard Disk or if nothing happens, system boots,
it seems a problem with motherboard, Get it repaired by a expert or buy a new one.this will work.
Enjoy !!! Thank you for using Fixya !!!

How do I remove the hard drive in Toshiba SatellitePro A10 EN? (Removing the plastic cover exposes only the end of the hard drive. I'm reluctant to just start pulling on it!

  • The original Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 HDD is fitted into a Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 Hard Disk Drive cradle - Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 HDD caddy.

      • Gently remove the cradle from the laptop, yes pull on it
      • Unscrew the original Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 Hard Disk Drive & remove it from the cradle.
      • Screw the new Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 Hard Disk Drive into the cradle & refit the cradle into the laptop.
      • Re-install XP or Vista

How to reformat my laptop, toshiba satellite u 300.thansk

          with what operating system?

          There are two ways...

          (1) take the hard drive out and connect it to another computer, right click on the drive, and click format

          (2) You need a windows or other operating system disk....just start it like you were going to install windows, and select advanced disk options (it's a link, easy to overlook but it's always there)

You can not format a disk with a running operating system on it.

There are other "bootable" disks you can also format the hard drive Acronis Backup boot disk, probably a Norton Ghost boot disk....things like that...not all bootable CDs, but usually a backup or disk imaging program will allow you to format a hard drive

Runs very slow... hard disk constantly running

You need to defrag your drive, make sure no unnecessary resources are running in the background and delete your temp folder as this fills with allsorts of rubbish you do not need and slows the operating system significantly.

My Toshiba Satellite A105 keeps hanging up. It

No matter what, backup your data now.

Then try running a hard disk scan to check for bad sectors. Some software apps will actually block off the bad sectors and prevent your system from trying to use them again.

However, I suspect that the issue is actually a memory or video card problem. Try installing memtest86 ( and running on your system.

          System Restore

It seems that your computer is not booting from DVD-ROM drive nor hard disk, but is trying to establish a network setup of the operating system.

You have to go to BIOS settings and correct these preferences by making your hard disk the first boot device. Of course that would be a solution if you have operating system installed on it. If there is no operating system installed on the hard disk, you will need to install it. In this case, your first boo device would DVD-ROM or CD-ROM, whichever available.

My laptop Toshiba Satellite A205-S4577 does not re-boot

start the machine and immediately press the setup button to get bios setup options. In this you have to set the cd/dvd as the first booting device. that's all. good luck.

Used Recovery Disk and I have an application error

It seems like your hard drive has some bad sectors.

You need to run some disk manager software to check/fix tour disk.

The best choice would be to download the "ultimate cd" from here

Boot from the cd, go to "hard disk tools" and select a disk manager (better to select the one from the same manufacturer of the disk).

Run a scan, and fix the drive (if it is possible). Then rerun your system restore cd again.

If the hard drive can't be fixed, you'll have to replace it before running the system retore.

          Good luck!

No Display, no audio, no power up sounds.

Sounds like a hardware failure because your not even reaching post. which means that its not software. i would take out the ram and hard drive. and then putting them back in. if that didn't do anything than I'm going to say you've probably got a dead mother board.
