My caps that read 1000uf 35v are not bulging. Could they still be at fault?

  • Anonymous Apr 20, 2009

does anyone have any pictures or better info on replacing these. Mine does a similar thing. The red light will come on then when you hit the power button it shuts off and comes back on again a little later. If i leave it unplugged for about a day or so it will sometimes come back and work once or twice?
I want to fi it myself and just need to know what i am looking for!?

red light is on all the time. When you press it it will go off then come back in a few seconds.

If you unplug the tv for a few minutes then plug it back in... when you plug it back in it pops a tiny bit then when you hit the power button it pops again and the blue light will flash then the whole thing goes off.

This sound is coming from the power source. i took it apart and tried it. The power source visually looks fine!?

Do i need to replace it or what? and Where do i find the replacement?

Ok so I didnt replace the caps yet but I am using the tv as my monitor. The problem mine had was once you had taken out the board from the tray, there was a samll cylinder type cap that blowout the solder. Well for trying to eliminate a problem, I just went ahead an resoldered that joint, put the ps back into the tv, and BAM!! the polariod logo cam on, I was like NAWICE!!! so now i am using it. All it took was gettin gthose caps here for me to take the board out the case. but in reality it costed me nothing had I not purchased the caps. Which, still I am glad I did because i am sure they will go eventually.

The sypmtoms I was having was the red lights would come on but no picture. they would turn blue either

ok I have gotte nthe caps that read 63v at 1000uf and they seem to be bigger. also, when I took the board off the plate, there is a burn spot from something else that blew on it. The little guy dosent have a number on it but it is a cylinder looking cap. I took the glew off of the solder was not even making contact. how do i know if this is the problem? I havent replaced the caps because they are not bulging. I ordered them because that is what I have read a lot that it is those that are the problem.

These Poloroid TV's all fail like this. Take it back if you can. If not, call the warranty and have them replace the module. Or, If so inclined, you can upgrade the capacitors in the power supply.
Sorry for the bad news.
Hope Ya Fix it!

I have found similar problems in the power supply of the main boards. I normally try to order the main board if the manufacture has it avaidible. The cost starts at about 100 dollars normally. Good Luck

Turn on TV.
Press the Input button on your remote.
Make sure the Source Input matches the corresponding device that is wired on the back of the TV.

Doesn't turn on

Pretty good chance the power supply board is bad. A number of capacitors will become leaky and you lose all power. Some techs still know how to do component Laval service but most just change the board $$$$
