If you installed from the recovery disks, then it should have installed the audio drivers. But it seems that you have installed normal XP. From PC disks??? You have not mentioned any brand/model. So, now type the make and model in google search box with drivers after model and press enter. Google will give you a long list of sites. Go to one of them that promises drivers for your laptop and download the audio driver from there and install on your laptop.
