When the monitor is turned on, the screen turns very bright white. Then it changes to a muddy brownish red. Then it ends up a light green. This occures in about 20 seconds. At no time does any data display.

Please check all the pins at both end of the VGA cable, also try it on another PC also since the problem can be in the video card. We need to narrow dow the problem first.
I f you see the message on the screen indicating 'NO INPUR SIGNAL', you need to check the VGA cable and both ends of the connectors also. Try this monitor with other PC also.
This SDM-HS73/93 have common problem: bad backlight assemblies due to poor workmanship in sodlering works, see my pictures below. You should also inspect the caps. This is not recommend for DIY.
First check brightness and contrast settings. If all good could either be your lcd back light has gone or the inverter. To check if its the black light shine a torch through the back of the screen to see if you can see a slight image on it, if you cant see anything the inverter board is faulty and to repair needs to be changed.
there may some spike(voltage goes above 1000v for few microsecond) come from electricity board
which may damaged colors ic you have to replace it and connect spike arrester before pc
The problem is with power inverter, usually the capacitors go bad and need to changed, they might be bulged and or leaking. Very cheap fix, less than a buck apiece and an hour with a solder iron. Google it to find more info.
