We sold our bosch dishwasher, working perfectly. New owners transported it on its back. Now it won't start, or even show that it is getting power, though the outlet works. What has happened?

Hello KT;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

Transporting the dishwasher on its back should not have been a problem. It is only with refrigerators and freezers that need to be transported up right, to prevent compressor oil getting into the refrigerant sealed system.

You may have a power cord problem. You have a 3 or 4 wire power cord. If you have a 3 wire power cord you need a 15 amp circuit breaker. If you have a 4 wired power cord you need a 30 amp circuit breaker.

The wall socket that you are plugged into my not have a ground.

You need to check the wall socket and the wire connects at the dishwasher. Send me a model number so I can see what you have. If you have a 4 wire connection you can chance the cord to a 3 wire. On a three wire you have a neutral and two hot with a small green ground wire. On a 4 wire you have a neutral two hot wires and a neutral in the center with a ground wire.

I would put my money on the wall socket not having a ground.

Send me a model number and I will help you.

How to reset a fisher paykal

THere is no specific instruction for reset of the dishdrawer.
Once you turn the mains power off and back on there is not much you can do. The problems using occur if there is a faulty sensor which tells the diswasher controller not to proceed. You will need to a bit more specific on the type of problem you are having so that the right solution can be proposed.

How do I test a used dishwasher before I install it?

Hi knowone has ever asked me that before but it can be done if you spend a little time You need to be near a power 120 volts plus water and a drain , if you look under your sink in your kitchen on the hot water valve you should be able to connect into the hot water , if you plan on hooking it up at this sink then go ahead and splice in a tap for water for the dish washer on the hot water you should buy a shut off type valve most times they use 3/8 , run the hose from the new water valve to the water valve on the dish washer then you need a drain that is the easy part run the drain hose from the dish washer right into your sink ,next you need power , down where the wires connect you will see a black wire and a white wire , if you have a old extention cord around that you can cut leave the end on that plugs into the outlet on the wall but cut the other end off , next open up the end of the cord to see the wires , if it has a green you dont need to use this for a quick test only if you want to , but hook up the black and the white then you should be all set to try it If i can help any more get back to me Frank

I don't see a power cord - does it need to be hard wired?

Many appliances do not come with a power cord. This leaves the option to the consumer to either hard wire to a terminal box, or purchase and install a power cord. You can purchase a three-prong power cord from any major hardware store. Power tool replacement cords work best, because they handle current well and have thick insulation to prevent chaffing. A good 15 to 20 amp cord is recommended. Whether you hard wire, or add a power cord that you can simply plug in, the wires as terminated as follows (U.S. Standard):

GREEN - Ground - terminate to ground lug

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Am interested in buying bosch 500 series dishwasher, but notice power cord and water cord are not included. I currently have a kitchenaid DW, can I just use same cords, or do I need to purchase new cords...

you should be able to use same cord. I would use 14 guage wire will run 15amp.
it will probably say 14/2 or 14/3 on the wire.
I would say your old wire is right. make sure you find the breaker for the dishwasher and turn off power before you work on it.

Plug does not go into outlet. Three blade plug with one "J" shaped blade. The outlet has three straight hole to acommodate three straight blades.

Replace the power cord to accomodate the outlet you have. You can purchase them at any hardware store for about $20. This is the easier option than trying to replace the outlet. To replace the cord follow these steps:

1. Remove the access cover on the terminal block on the back of the dryer. This is where the existing power cord is installed.

2. Remove the existing power cord from the terminal block.

3. Remove the power cord restraining clamp (if equipped). This secures the power cord at the entry point on the back of the dryer and prevents it from stressing the terminals and prevents chaffing of the outer insulation on the power cord. NOTE: Its a good idea to have this installed for safety reasons.

4. Remove the old power cord and install the new one following this color scheme at the terminal block:

RED (Hot) - 120VAC
BLACK (Hot) - 120VAC
WHITE (Neutral) - 0 VAC - Should be connected to the terminal block and grounded to the equipment cabinet via a grounding strap.

NOTE: If the power cord or wires at the terminal block are not color coded, the outer two wires (LEFT and RIGHT) are the two hot leads. The center conductor is Neutral.

If you have any questions about this repair, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Do you have to install plug on tappan dishwasher? or is it hidden somewhere? Installing new dishwasher and cannot locate plug

Most dishwashers do not come with a power cord installed. The reason is because some homeowners choose to hardwire the applaince rather than putting a power cord on it and plugging it in. If you plan to use a receptacle, then you need to purchase a three prong power cord. You can find them at any hardware store or appliance parts retailer. The junction box to install it is located behind the lower toe panel directly below the door on nearly all dishwashers. With the toe panel removed, you should see a small silver box. Remove any access screws and open it to find the wires to install the power cord. The color code for installation is as follows:

Black - HOT lead (120 VAC)
White - Neutral (0 VAC)
Green (or Bare Copper) - Ground

Match the wires to the corresponding colors and attach the ground wire to the ground lug on the appliance. If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: If you are using a receptacle for the dishwasher, it is recommended that it be a dedicated outlet. That is, to prevent overloading, nothing else should be on the same circuit.
