I bought this thing w/ vista home premium. After so many problems, I descided to install XP into it.
I put all of my personal items on an external, then installed XP. Great!........ other than now most of my drivers are not working. I have looked multiple places for the dvd driver, but it is driving me crazy.
I have even purchased a program that scans and lets you know what drivers are bad. It actually installed one for the dvd drive, but not the right one. And I get nothing when trying to do the other drivers that are not working.
HELP! I'm thinking about trading this thing in for a Tandy 2000. :)

you should not need a DVD driver to make the DVD work. DVD Drives are standard. Windows knows what it is, trust me. go to your control panel, click on system. choose the hardware tab at the top. then click on device manager. look for DVD/CD-ROM drives. It should be in there.
basicly in windows xp, you should just install a DVD Player Program to get it to work. like Power DVD or Windows Media Player 10. Make sure you go to windows updates and do all of your updates. sometimes newer hardware wont work unless you are using windows xp service pack 2. also if you choose custom install at windows updates, you will see drivers for windows xp. Not all the time will it know, so dont count on Microsoft too darn much. :D

- My previous post will deal with all your xp drivers issues....sound, graphics etc. But as lostchain says your DVD player will work as long as there is an available DVD codec. Windows Media Player does not have its own DVD codec, you need Cyberlink PowerDVD or Intervideo WinDVD to provide one. However, these are not free so you could try downloading the K-Lite codec pack. I always install the K-Lite codec pack after a fresh install of xp so I can watch DVD's with Windows Media Player.http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm
