Broken monitor wiring harness

Found two broken orange colored wires (side by side) on the left side hinge of a Gateway 450rog laptop. How can I make sure I wire them back together; same wire to same wire?

My Gateway NV5942u wasn't powering up...had to open and close the monitor while pushing the power button.

perhaps there is a frayed wired within the LCD housing, where the wire runs through near the hinge.

Screen burry wih clors

remove the cable from the monitor and check whether you get the no connection display in the monitor if you get that connect the monitor to the computer and switch on the computer still if you have blue color in the monitor move the monitor cable up and down slowly and see whether the color changes if the color changes the problem is with the cable from the monitor

Broken Inspiron 1525 Lid

To fix your laptop follow the steps given below.
  • First of all as your hinges are broken you have to buy a pair of hinges for your laptop model.
  • This hinge includes the whole assembly made up of metal with a part which attaches your screen to the laptop.
  • Now you have to open up your laptop from the backside and disassemble the upper side.
  • This will make you see the part which detaches tour screen from the laptop.Just remove the screws and your screen will be completely detached.
  • now you can replace the damaged hinges with the new one.
  • you have to remove four screws for one hinge. Two screws supporting the screen and two attaches the screen with the laptop.
  • so remove these screws and replace the hinges and pack the laptop again.
And the lines are basically due to the movement of loose connector. So while fixing please fix the connector also.

Thank you

Black lcd display no backlight just very dim

The inverter should usually sit on the right side of the display. The thin black and white wires with the "appliance plug" on the end is held at the bottom of the display by one of the smaller screws. It fits onto the screw hole and is held by the screw at the bottom right/middle. The red/green/yellow/black/white set of wires is hooked into the display near the hinge and the other end is plugged into the board on the base unit of the laptop itself. Hooking the monitor back up is kind of a pain given the amount of parts/screws but it's more time-consuming than difficult. Good luck and I hope I helped some :-)

Gateway left hinge broke

Definately an easy fix.

I suggest looking on eBay for a donor chassis.
Sometimes they can be had relatively cheap CLICK HERE (this one has both hinges broken however) - and sometimes just the parts you are looking for are available CLICK HERE (this is for the RHS one though).

An entire donor PC is adviseable, because usually the repair is not just the hinge that broke - as the rest of the lid is plastic!

Once the trim above the keyboard is pried off, you will see the monitor cable, and hinge screws.

The trim around the monitor must be dis-assembled and pried into 2 parts.
Then the hinge & Support are either screwed into the side of the screen, or the back of the lid.

Most look like this...

Replace reverse of removal.

HERE is a link that will describe it better and give you a visual reference.

Once the screen is free of the chassis - its time to remove the little rubber scerw covers in the lid, and disassemble.

Good Luck!! Thanks for using FixYa - a FixYa rating is appreciated!!

Without a visual inspection it would be impossible to say. But it does sound like you will almost certainly need a new motherboard.
