Question about Electrolux EOB5600 Ultrafan Electric Single Oven

Electrolux EOB5600 electrical fault?

There was an electrical smell when the oven was in use, then the unit stopped working. I took the oven out of the housing to find that the neutral cable had burnt right through in the terminal on the back of the oven!  I'm not sure what to do with the oven as its not under guarantee (2 years old bought from new) or whether it is able to be repaired. The plastic terminal which secures the live, earth and neutral cables is black and cracked. I guess i'm lucky it didnt catch fire! Any ideas would be greatly received. thanks.

Hi, thanks for your quick reply. Although i still cant understand why the heat of the oven would burn out the neutral cable and not the others, and also why the fuse didnt blow in the plug (doesnt appear to be one on the oven).

Goto home depot, lowes and get some ceramic wire nuts and heat tape and electrical tape.cut the wires back on both sides of the terminal block.bypass the t-block and connect the wires with the wire nuts wrap the heat tape then electrical tape on each one.if you have access to a amp meter take readings to make sure the amp draw isnt too high.i would think the wires just burned up from either a loose connection or the heat of the oven.this should solve your problem.

EW30EW65SS Stainless Steel smells like burning electrical

Hello purrpplee - If the smell is coming out of the oven vent, more than likely it is something inside the oven that is creating the odor. Also, keep in mind that new cooking products can create a burning electrical odor when the bake and broil cycles are used as any residual coating or film on the oven liner and elements burns off. However, if odor increases consult a professional for an accurate diagnosis.

I have a brand new electric oven. When I switched it on there was a very strong smell of burning and when I opened the door alot of what appeared to be fumes came out, is this normal when an oven is new?

yes - there is a chemical put on the elements to keep them from corroding and appearing new until first used.
The smoke will go away after the first bake.
It is non-toxic.

A bright light flashed in the oven and now it is not heating up what can be wrong the fan is still working though and the grill

Check the thermal fuses / sensors mounted on the top exterior of the heating chamber and also the heating element. Both accessible from the rear of the oven. The element is most likely to have gone. It will be a 2 or 3 turn coil type with the fan mounted to the middle of it. You will need to check the number of turns of the coiled element and also the mounting holes to ensure you get the right type. Turn off the mains power at the breaker or distribution point. You can get to the element behind the rear plate of the oven cavity by removing the side shelf slides, and rear panel by undoing the securing screws on the plate (2 or 4 depending on the exact model you have). Often a good idea to take a photo of the element mounting and take the model and serial no of the oven so that you can take this to the domestic appliance shop or email it to an online supplier to make sure that the element they supply is correct for your exact oven.

You probably have a bad ( or open ) heating element.. With the power removed.. look at the heating element and make sure it is connected properly and if after you check that it looks ok.. plug it in and try again.. if it fails to get hot..its probably bad.. Not sure what you mean when you say ' IT TRIPPED THE ELECTRIC SWITCH OFF AT THE TIME' but if it tripped the switch or circuit breaker .. your heating element may be shorting out to ground.. and would need to be replaced anyway... Hope that helps.
