Question about Panasonic CT-32SL14 32" TV

1 Answer

CT-36D30B Two problems, first the TV shuts down by itsself, if you bang on the back, it will make a click sound and come back on in a few minutes. Also the vertical goes out and theres just a line down the center of the screen. If they are cold solder joints, how can i find them.

I have a 2001, Panasonic 27

Suspect either bad solder connections somewhere or a issue in the power supply of the set----set will shut down for a number of reasons--it monitors voltages inside and if some go high or low it will shut down.

Panasonic TV picture shrinks to a line

There is an IC which controls the vertical deflection and over the course of a few (or 8) years with the set heating up and cooling off some of the connections work their way loose causing the symptoms you describe.
If you were to bang on the side of the set you could likely "pop" it back in but this is not a good solution. The vertical IC needs to be re-soldered. This is especially common in Panasonic sets. About 10 minutes with a soldering iron should have it worked out.

If you're handy with a soldering iron I can tell you what to look for.

Won't turn on

Once you take the back off there is a glass gma fuse withing a few inches of where the power cord plugs into the board at. This should be a 6.3 or 6.5 gma fuse. Very common to blow in your model because the degausing coil is a little to big for it. There are other reasons for it to blow but 99% of the time you change change it and the set will work again. Let me know if you need more help or info!

Sony Trinitron KV-32S40 32" TV problem

This is a simple and common problem. The solder joints on the vertical output IC have cracked loose. I actually did a housecall on the exact same set with the exact same symptoms this morning! A good tech will resolder the pins of the vertical output IC and all other major solder joints on the main board and the set will play fine.

My Panasonic TV

Many TVs, including some Panasonic models, have an Auto-OFF feature that will automatically turn the set off after a few minutes, if the TV thinks it is not receiving a video signal. By reinserting the coaxial cable, you are probably restarting the Auto-OFF timer inside the TV. There are several possible things that could cause the Auto-OFF to falsely activate. Try and change the coax cable going from the VCR to the TV, if you have a spare. If not, plug the cable from the cable box directly into the back of the TV. Make sure the TV is on the correct channel, usually Ch 3 or Ch 4. (Do not use the original cable that was running from the VCR to the TV, just in case it is intermittent.)
