Re: slow process

There could be programmes running at startup that you don't need at that time, go to start-run-type "msconfig" click on "startup" tab, uncheck any startup items you don't need.
Before doing this, its a good idea to backup your registry so that if problems arise, you can restore to original.
A highly recommended backup utility for the registry is ERUNT, just type ERUNT into google for the details.
Also you should run an anti-virus scan to check for any malware.

Why does my computer almost always come up with a black box say something to the effect of "Task Manager is closing background programs......" when I try to shut down?

There are many "processes" that run in order to provide services to the user and the application programs you install. I've seen system with as many as 85-100 processes running with no actual applications open. Occasionally, these processes take extra time to close down if there are other processes preventing them from doing so immediately at shutdown. To avoid corrupting the processes, the OS alerts you, the user to the extra time needed so you don't think there are any problems. You may have the option to force them closed, but unless you are willing to risk a corrupted file, doing so is not wise. Be patient and wait. This is a normal occurrence that will happen from time to time.

Slow computer

If your computer is made after 2006 then it is time for factory restore. Back up all files on disk or something. Then do a factory reset. This would take roughly 2 to 3 hours and make sure the laptop don't run out battery so keep it plugged in. As the laptop boots up hit F2 then after that windows pop up hit the advanced version (F8). Choose fix my computer and choose the factory or out of the box restore.

SIR MY pc take long time to start window

Improve performance by defragmenting your hard disk

Fragmentation makes your hard disk do extra work that can slow down your computer. Removable storage devices such as USB flash drives can also become fragmented. Disk Defragmenter rearranges fragmented data so your disks and drives can work more efficiently. Disk Defragmenter runs on a schedule, but you can also analyze and defragment your disks and drives manually. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. ? to open Disk Defragmenter.

  2. Under Current status, select the disk you want to defragment.

  3. To determine if the disk needs to be defragmented or not, click Analyze disk. ?id=18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Once Windows is finished analyzing the disk, you can check the percentage of fragmentation on the disk in the Last Run column. If the number is above 10%, you should defragment the disk.

  4. Click Defragment disk. ?id=18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Disk Defragmenter might take from several minutes to a few hours to finish, depending on the size and degree of fragmentation of your hard disk. You can still use your computer during the defragmentation process.

  • If the disk is already in exclusive use by another program, or if the disk is formatted using a file system other than NTFS file system, FAT, or FAT32, it can't be defragmented.

  • Network locations can't be defragmented.

  • If a disk that you're expecting to see under Current status is not showing up there, it might be because it contains an error. You should try to repair the disk first, then return to Disk Defragmenter to try again. See Check your hard disk for errors for more information.

also "hibernate" the computer instead of "shut down"

My wife has a dell vista os computer. can not defragment hard drive. have tried several programs to no avail.what do i do ?

With Windows Vista and Windows 7, hard drive fragmentation is a minor issue, and rarely contributes to a computer's slowness. If you're still running Windows Vista, I would highly recommend an upgrade to Windows 7, as it will likely help speed things up.

My computer is not fast and so may virus

A lot of the time, this simply means that you have too many programs running at the same time. If you're using windows press CTRL+SHIFT+ESCAPE, then when the window pops up, click the performance tab at the top, and look under there to see if you've used up too much memory.
Since windows starts using your hard drive as extra temporary memory once your ram fills up, it slows the computer's operation down quite a bit. This means that you either have to upgrade the amount of ram that you have or try to uninstall software running that you don't absolutely need.
There's a list of running processes under the processes tab. It takes a little bit of experience, but some of the names under there might be recognizable, and you can find out what to uninstall using that as your hint.

System running very slow, programs not responding including anti virus which is not performing virus scan.

- Open Task Manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc).
- Open Processes Tab.
- Make the column "CPU Time" shown (somewhere in menu).

You will see, which process eat the performance.

If Task Manager doesn't start, it must be a quite clever virus. Try
It is free.

My pc not shutdown from login box , it frezze

Try to tune up your machine: scan disk, clean up, and optimize your registry with any registry tools you have, and try also to defragment your hard disk.

Maybe a virus

is it the internet that runs slow or everything? either way, go to the following site:

click on the link that says "Scan Now. Its Free!" it will do an online virus scan of your computer, and this should get rid of any viruses you have. You may have to install Java for it to work. If so, it should provide a link to install it. If it doesnt, google "java software" and download the software. it may also be a RAM problem (not enough computer memory) but thats probably not as likely if your computer is new. Also, you can go the task manager and delete all of the processes that you think arent needed (such as itunes, etc. make sure that your user name is under the user name column for each one you are deleting, and DO NOT delete the "explorer" process or any system processes). And this may speed up your computer as well.
