Hitachi 43FDX20B t.v. has reddish tint

I played with the settings but I still have a reddish tint on the t.v. What are the optimal color, contrast, tint, etc. settings? Maybe a projection problem...?

I have this exact same problem!!  I am glad to see it is not just me.  How much does this cost to fix?  Is is pricey?  Is it worth doing, or should I get a new TV.

This can be one of two things, I think this set was manufactured in 02 so it would be atleast 6yr.old so saying that could be 1. Fluid contamination problem or 2. Clean Spark gaps problems. The first is when you observe the fluid above the CRT's and see if it looks cloudy and contaminated. 2. The cleaning of the spark gaps are most likely the problem. But this requires knowledge of what to do and what not to do. This is a Dangerous area full of High Voltage. So you would need to know how to discharge set before servicing. Carefully not to damage anode leads to set. For more info on this you can visit ctechnicians.com

You need a simple color adjustment. (Color Calibration)

You don't need to spend money on this. Try it for yourself.

Your main problem is that your color temperature is set to warm.
You need to change temperature to COOL or 6500K depending, on how it is labeled.

You will see improvement, but there is a little more...
Move "Color" DOWN from it's current position (probably at 50) to somewhere between 30 and 40. (Just a couple of clicks above where the color rapidly washes out.)

At this point there will still be slightly unnatural color to skin tones, but all the artificial "sunburn" and blaring red will be gone.

Last (as far as color goes) move the tint 2 to 4 clicks toward green. This added green tint balances the color so that the flesh tones become completely accurate and realistic.

My 43fdx20b had a pink tint to it also. The picture was clear otherwise. I found, on mine, I needed to adjust the Red Screen control. It was located behind the front panel. I removed the two screws on either side of the front panel and was able to remove the panel. Then I adjusted the Red Screen control. I found that if I tuned in an old Black and white movie I could adjust the color fairly accurately. Good Luck.

Picture settings

Colorimetre HCFR software
AVC HD 709 calibration disk
Spyder2 colorimeter (I know most prefer the Eye-One meters, but the Spyder2 was available from my job at no cost)

Here are the settings:

PS3 Blu-Ray player

Output Format (HDMI): Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr (important!!! NOT RGB output)
BD 1080p 24hz Output (HDMI): On (this TV can reproduce video at 48hz for accurate 2:2 pulldown)
Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super White (HDMI): On (not sure if this matters)

42LG50 Settings

Aspect Ratio: Set By Program (Personal Preference)
Picture Mode: Expert 1
Backlight: 50 (Personal Preference)
Contrast: 54
Brightness: 54
Sharpness: 40 (Personal Preference)
Color: 50
Tint: 0

Fresh Contrast: Off
Noise Reduction: Off
Gamma: Medium
Black Level: Low

60 (10,50,-20)

Green Tint: 0
Blue Color: 14
Blue Tint: 0
Yellow Color: 0
Yellow Tint: 1
Cyan Color: -11
Cyan Tint: 0
Magenta Color: 0
Magenta Tint: -2

Take time to get used to the settings, you may think the screen looks dull at first. The truth is most people have way too much contrast on their TVs.
These settings will also work for Cable or Dish hookups, in which case you may change the Noise Reduction option to Medium to reduce signal noise.
