Black line on scanned copy

If you notice poor image quality in scans, faxes, or copies, you may need to clean the scan lens and the white roller.
  1. Unplug the power cord from the wall.
  2. Open the control panel.
  3. Pull the roller lever forward, and then lift the white roller out of the All-In-One. Note: The scan lens is located under the white roller.
  4. Use a clean, lint-free cloth dampened with water to wipe the white roller and the scan lens.
  5. Reinstall the white roller.

You can start a scan from your computer or from your HP PSC. 1 Load your original.
2 Press Scanner, then press PC Save, if not already lit. This saves the scan to your computer.
3 Press Black or Color. For Windows, a scan of the original appears in the HP Image Viewer. For Macintosh, a scan of the original appears in the HP Workplace. In the HP Image Viewer, you can edit the scanned image. When you are done viewing the image, click Accept.
The HP PSC does a final scan of the original and sends the image to the HP Photo View Center in Windows. In the HP Photo View Center, you can:
- edit images, including adding text
- creative printing
- create and print photo albums
- send to fax, e-mail, web page, or other programs.

Im having a problem with my canon mp 510 scanner, the problem is when i go to scan a piece of white paper with black writing on it, it reverses and shows me on the computer black paper with white writing...

this could be because.. in the printer preference / properties .. you have the option of Mirror printing../mirror image.. so, pls uncheck/disable that.

Also make sure that you are keeping the paper face down , correctly on the slot provided ..

I am trying to scan a document and it is not working, I have a hp photosmart c4280 printer. How do I install a usb cord

Place the document or image into the scanner for scanning. A scanner with a paper feeder will only receive flat papers and photographs, but a flatbed scanner opens to accommodate books, fabrics and leaves along with flat papers. There is even a attachment for feeding photo slides into flatbed scanners.
  • Step 2 Start the scanning softwaremag-glass_10x10.gif. If the scanner does not engage the software automatically, press the "start" or "scan" button, or click the scanner icon on the computer screen to initialize the software.
  • Step 3 Activate the scan. Click the "file" menu and select "acquire," "import," or another practical choice that applies.
  • Step 4 Preview the item to be scanned. Most scanners have a preview option. This will show the scan area inside dotted lines. The lines can be moved with the mouse to relocate, enlarge or crop the scanning area.
  • Step 5 Set the resolution for images by number of dots per inch (dpi). For computer screen viewing, 100 dpi should suffice. Use 200 to 300 dpi for items to be printed.
  • Step 6 Use the appropriate setting for scanning black and white text. If the scanner does not show a preset for text, use "line art" or "black and white" at 300 dpi. Then use the optical character recognition (OCR) program to convert the image of the text into a file for word processi

HP 5610 scanner won't save image

I just need to understand the exact issue. It sounds like you are able to successfully scan, see the preview of the scanned image, and you initially save it. Then, when you go to open the saved image, you don't see the image you scanned but rather a "line". You've saved the image in a number of different image formats, but there's no difference in the result. It saves the scanned image to the location you want to save it on your computer's hard drive (probably My Pictures if you're using a Windows operating system).

Not sure what you mean by a "line". Do you mean a vertical line, a horizontal line, a diagonal line or what? Also, is it just a solid black line on a white background? Is it the image you scanned compressed into a smaller vertical or horizontal space?

Have to tried scanning both text pages and graphic pages? There have been issues where a document with both text and pictures has been scanned but when the scanned image is viewed, only the text appears. The pictures don't make it. The description of this specific problem is at

I take it you don't get any sort of error message associated with this problem. Unfortunately, I can't find your specific problem at beyond the link I posted in the above paragraph. If you can answer some of the questions I asked, it might help me provide a better solution.

    Scanner in negative

You must have chosen "negative" output in the scanner setup. Go through the scanner options and you should be able to find a way to undo it..
