Hi My problem is that this plastic strip has come off of something and now the ink cartridges go back and forth really hard but doesn't print anything. There are little slits on each end of the strip. One end is ripped so I figure this is why it came off. I have no idea where it would go or if I can get a new one or use this one. Please help

- I have the strip that you have mentioned but I don't know where it goes. If I can put it back on I would be happy. The problem is I don't know anything about printers and so I have no idea why this would of come off or where it goes. I believe it is the little slit that is ripped that caused it to come off. If you could tell me where and how to put it back on I would appreciate it

Hi Debbie,

If the plastic strip is about 10mm (or ~0.4 inches) and about the with of the printer, and if you look very closely the strip is striped (with tiny very think vertical lines).. .that strip is the locator strip… The ink cartridges read that strip to know where the carriage is (ie the carriage reads/counts the strips and then it knows where it is)

Hence if the stripe is now in your possession the printer doesn’t know where the cartridges are and just keeps moving them back and fro hoping to “find them”.. sadly without that stripe you printer will work no more L

Sorry.

- HI Debbie,

Apologies if I wasn't clear. The strip, if it is still intact, is held in position by to posts at each side of the printer. The strip goes horizontal (the same motion of the cartridges when printing). It goes about 1/2" above the metal cylinder that the carriage sues to travel along.
There is one hook on each side of the inside of the printer) above the main cylindrical bar) that hold the strip tense. Hope this helps.
