Region Codes

When I bought this machine I was assured that it was "multi-region" enabled. I now find that ths is not the case. The service centre said to bring it back to them and the would "unlock" it. The problem is I live out in the bush 600km from the nearest service centre. Can anyone help with a process that will allow me to unlock it myself? Thanks.
