If the "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" fail to light-up due to a failure of a single or multiple $2 parts on a power supply board you have a black screen!! This problem is also very common to LCD computer monitors. Try to view a vid by someone called "cal22583" who did his own repair to a Philips 42" or 50" unit.
