    Dear Suisboy,

    After mailing u my query, yesterday I have already unpartioned and then re-partioned the drive with primary as-well-as logical drives with 'FDISK'. But as i re-boot, the partions are lost i.e. as if they were never made. Help ???

Use the partion magic software may be ur disc remain unpartioned.

i recomend you to use fidsk or un partion all the disk and then re partioned may be it lost the boot sector allocation table.

Hi,

Three possible reasons:
1. Your IDE cable is defective or is not seated/plug in correctly. Try to replace or re-seat/re-insert;
2. The on-board disk management of the hard disk is corrupted/defective. There is no remedy except to replace the PCboard or the entire hard disk;
3. Your motherboard BIOS/CMOS needs to be flashed and/or something is wrong with the IDE interface.

Of the 3, # 1 is the most common.

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

good luck and kind regards.

Make sure the power cable and IDE cable is plugged in properly then boot your computer up again. If it does not work, test it on another computer to see if the hard drive works at all.

Samsung SP0411N HDD (3.5" IDE 40GB) PC board replacement

Hi,

The firmware is upgradable on these devices but only within the same Rev Series. Your best bet is to source a board with the same Rev and similar production date.

Assuming the board is all that failed this should r troubles. Try http://stores.shop.ebay.ca/Effective-Electronics__W0QQ_armrsZ1 as they carry a wide variety of boards. if they don't have it try a general search on eBay. Don't use anything more than the Samsung model # for the search though as most sellers haven't a clue about Rev#'s. Once you find a few similar ones you can ask the sellers for specifics.

If you can't find the proper board or if you do and it fails to garner results let me know and include your location(Country, State and City) and I will refer you into a clean room facility.

Check the jumper settings on the back of the drive, if this is the primary HD, set it to master, if secondary, set it to slave, if secondary still does not recognize, switch the ide cable so that the two drives are not on the same one.
