Question about Canon PowerShot SD750 / IXUS 75 Digital Camera

Urgent: Communication Error- Camera Not Detected

Ok. why can't I transfer images to my PC. I didn't read the manual 1st (sorry; usu. most softwares are self-guided). I think my camera connected to my PC w/ the usb cable while I was installing the software. I've read that was a big no-no; hence my current camera problem. I have un- and re-installed the software w/o the camera attached to the PC. What can I possibly do now that doesn't involve returning the camera? Please help!

Same problem, had camera connected while installing I think.

  • Anonymous Sep 18, 2008

I have had my camera for about two years now... and back in May, I started to get the "Communication Error" which was weird because I've taken literally thousands of pics and loaded them to the computer from the camera. I tried switch to a new cable... it didn't work. Then back in July I started to get a message saying that none of the pics match the download criteria, meaning that there weren't any new pics. Come to find out that meant that I had more than a thousand new pics to download, so i deleted some and then it worked! but since then I get the Communication error too... but I only have maybe 200 new pics to download. I tried deleting some, and re-installing the software, didn't work.... AAHhhh!

Camera says "communication error" when trying to transfer images to computer. Why?

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to transfer pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa.

Impossible to connect camera with PC. no driver in the PC for camera powershot A510. What's the matter?

Just figured this one out. Man, they don't make it easy. I'm borrowing my roommate's PowerShot A510 and since it has a USB port going out, I'd assume I could simply connect the camera to my PC and access my images directly. Almost every other camera I've seen will register itself to Windows as a straight USB connection (prompting the Windows screen asking how you want to open the connection - 'open folder' etc). This one just sits dead quiet about things :)

If you've just bought this camera at a garage sale or are borrowing it or for whatever other reason do not have the "bundled" software and driver CD or have the camera's serial number, do not bother trying to find windows drivers or try to obtain any software from Canon. You won't get very far.

FINALLY found the solution in the User's Manual (which was free thank God). You can download the manual here: http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_a_series/powershot_a510#BrochuresAndManuals
(Select your operating system and download the "PowerShot A520/A510 Camera User Guide". File name is PSA520510CUG-EN.pdf)

In the User Guide, page 107 (I'll paraphrase):
1. Put camera in Play mode (the switch on the back (green arrow in green box)
2. Press Menu button (center one of the three along the bottom of the view screen)
3. In the 1st menu option (Play Menu, again green arrow in box highlighted), use the wheel button to scroll down to highlight "Transfer Order". Press Set (center of wheel).
4. You should now see "Transfer Order (DPOF) at the top of the screen and "Qty. of images 0".
5. Below "Qty of images 0" you'll see "Order", "Mark All", and "Reset". Order lets you select individual images; Mark All marks all current images for transfer; and Reset is reset. Press Set to choose.

Note: pressing the Menu button while selecting images brings you back to this main screen. If you are already at this main screen and you aren't ready to do your transfer yet, DON'T press the Menu button from this screen as it will initiate the transfer to your computer. Not a horrible thing, but might cause a mini freak-out.

7. Once you're selected the images you want to transfer, from the main Transfer Order window (now showing "Qty. of images" with a count of the images you selected), press the Menu button.

8. You'll see a white progress bar at the bottom of the screen. Don't worry! it's not deleting files or something bad.. (my first thoughts :) ..
9. Go to your PC and Voila! the Windows AutoPlay screen is now active!
10. Proceed with normal Windows USB operations (transferring at least, I didn't try any deletion).

I hope this helps somebody else out there who spent the last 3 hours trying to dig through internet hell to get this to work.

Atm, this is as much as I know so I probably don't have any good answers for any questions. Sorry :))

But, hope this helped at least!

Camera not recognized by PC

Hi
Your best bet would be to go out and buy a card reader. This solves your problem and save you in other ways. First of all the whole downloading process is a lot quicker. Second your save wear and tear on your battery. Three no need to plug in the power cord if you don't want to run on battery power. lowers the risk of damage to your camera and possible accidents by the cable getting pulled and taking your camera with it.

Card reader are really cheap.

Canon zoombrowser Ex downloading problem

Try updating the Zoombrowser software.

If you have a connection to the camera, go into my computer and get images directly off the camera using scanner and camera wizard, microsoft's default program. This will at least allow you to transfer your images until you can resolve the software problem.

If you have no connection to the camera via your computer, you need to try some other troubleshooting steps to get a connection. I will post those below in the next post.

I am still getting communication errors. Is my camera defective? (Fuji DS, DX and MX digital cameras only)

As long as the camera is taking pictures and playing back the pictures on its LCD, most of time the camera is OK. Serial communication port of Digital Camera is rarely damaged. If you are using Windows '95, there is a way of verifying the serial communication port. Following are the instructions: a. Open Control Panel from the Start/Settings menu. Double-click Accessibility options, then go to Mouse and activate mouse keys. This feature enables you to use the numeric keypad to move the mouse pointer. (For details please refer to the Help index of Windows 95) b. Turn off the PC and the Digital camera. Remove the Serial mouse from 9 pin connector, then connect Data transfer cable to the 9 pin connector and the other end of cable connect to the Digital camera. Turn ON the PC and the Digital camera. From this point the numeric keypad can be used for Mouse functions. Start the FUJI data transfer software, select COM 1 from the Communication ports within the "Communications Settings" item of the "Camera" Menu. c. Go to "Get images from Camera" of the "Camera" Menu. If you get a blank thumbnail, your Digital camera is communicating to the PC. To receive thumbnails of all pictures go to "Edit", go to "Select All", then click the 3rd Icon from the left. Progressive indicator shows "Receiving thumbnails". In this case the Camera is OK, and the problem is other than with the Digital camera.
