My printer says "put in cartridge", after I took it out to clean it. I would buy a new print head for $33.70, but I am not sure if that is really the problem.

    Thanks

Sounds like it's not seated properly. That can happen when it's pressed in unevenly. Try to seat it straight on, with the printer on a shelf or table, at almost eye level.

Canon mp390 flashing alarm saying "put in cartridge"

The cartridge in this case is the printhead, not the inks. It's telling you the printhead is bad.

Printer says "put cartridge in"; cartridge is already in

When that happens, it's because the printhead has gone out. You need to replace it.QY6-0054-000 around $40.00

Mp390 will not print, I have new cartriges installed and have preformed maintainance rutine

Take the cartridge out and put it in a cup with about 1 cm of hot water for a few minutes. Dry the cartridge on some tissue and hopefully you will see all three colour on the tissue. Reinsert and clean print heads again. This normally works.

Are the cartridges re-manufactored or original canon cartridge?
Most cartridges have chips or fuses that burn out when the cartridge has been used. Then when you get it re-filled the cartridge is already rendered useless.

If the cartridges are orignal canon then you may have another issue perhaps with the printer head, in a last resort you should try to clean this will alochol and a cotton bud "lightly"
