I assume you are trying to print from your computer.
The driver for this unit will give you an out of paper message almost any time it won't print for any reason.
If the unit copies, but does not print from your computer, then it is a communication issue. Perhaps uninstall/reinstall the driver?

Check your printer sharing in the system preferences... make sure it's on.. then when you get the print window, look for your printer under shared printers... try it that way... worked for me on my wifi network here.

I suggest you get a sheet of Card Stock (Heavy
paper) and place it in the feed way. Then press the print
button applying a slight amount of pressure on the Card Stock so it
will feed through the printer. The reason for this is in some cases I
have been able to clear the paper track of debris that was deposited there
over time.
Worth a try, as I have fixed a number of printers this
way, saving costly repairs.

Dear Bill, Flashing 5 times in orange indicates that print head error occurs so it cannot be detected properly by the printer. To make it sure, install a good print head in the printer. Is the problem fixed?. If the problem still persist, carriage part may be faulty. Overall, the print head is the most faulty part in this case. So, you need to replace the print head with new one. No reason why you should. Run printer software on laptop and connect cable between lapptop and printer when told to do so. Cable needs to be connected everytime you want to use printer.
