Problem for Craftsman 17.5 hp 42 in. Deck Lawn Tractor - CA Model
Craftsman LT2000 transmission won't engage
My Father-in-law died last week and I'm here trying to help my Mother-in-law. I've never used the Craftsman LT2000 before, but reading through the instructions (on the mower) and filling up the gas, everything worked. Emptied the collection system, went back to where I had left off, put in the clutch engaged the blades, then pushed on the forward pedal and get a grinding sound. Won't engage!

Is the parking brake applied? If it is a hydro, do not use the brake pedal at the same time you try to move the forward motion lever or pedal

Sounds like you either lost a bearing inside the transmission or that something in the linkage system has come loose and shifted. easiest way is to jack the unit up and visually follow the shifting hardware, while having someone trying to engage it with unit shut off and see is you can visually find where the shaft is slipping or failing to move.
