Sparks and motherboards are an instant kill....There must have been a short somewhere on the board and when the two metalic contacts got close, the voltage jumped. It was doomed to happen I'm afraid, there was nothing you could have known about that. Then again if you push a laptop along a fabric couch and then go to connect a peripheral, the same thing will happen only that time it would be static charge. same damage occurs though......death to the motherboard.
Hello there: I would have to say that you are right about the motherboard or a coponent on the motherboard Whenever you see a spark like this this is not good for motherboards or small electronics in general there are virtually hundreds of tiny capacitors and relays that are on the motherboard and it only takes a tiny spark or power surge to fry them. I would see if you have a warranty still with this laptop and use it. you may want to check out the power cord and makes sure that it is still in good working order and also try taking out the battery and leaving it out. Than find the reset button on the back of the machine and inserting a toothpick or small object into it and hold it in for 45 seconds and than while still holding in on it try to power up the unit ok? I hope that this has been very helpful for you best regards michael
