When I press the menu button my camera scrolls repeatedly through the menu screens and the arrow keys and OK button are non-responsive. I reinstalled the firmware with no improvement so am thinking it may be a hardware problem...

If your camera is giving you a `E91` error on screen it could be a faulty flash module and need replacing at a Sony Service Center. Contact your dealer for info.
But, before you do that try steps 1 and 2 below.
Here is some things you can try:
1. If it is only a setting you can select the `green` camera for auto shooting and then press the `UP arrow key until the flash sign is shown on the screen. The screen will also say `Flash On`. Take a picture to see if it works.
If not proceed to `2` below.
2. Press the `Menu` button.
First select the `Green` camera on the selection knob.
Scroll with the right arrow to the little toolbox picture.
Once in the setup menu scroll down to the toolbox picture with a 1 under neath.
Press the right arrow arrow and then scroll to the `Intialize` option.
Press the right button and select `OK`.
Press the middle button on the arrow selector.
Camera now wants to know if you are sure, select ok.
You will now have to enter the date again and setup any `Program` settings you might want on the camera.
Now take the camera into a dark room - as it is now on `Flash Auto` and test to see if the flash works.
If none of these helped you, you can take the camera to a repair agent and get it fixed. I have replaced numerous of the flash modules at approximately a quarter of the cost of the camera.
