I have moved one of my two computers to my guest house which is about 120 feet away from my cable modem and I have no connection to the internet. I have the computer in the main house connected to a linksys modem and cable wire, do I need a linksys out side along with the netgear? Do i need an additional modem from the cable company? What do I need to do? Thank you in advance.
I would go wireless. Try to connect to the net using a laptop (wireless) at the guest house. If the signal strength is decent you should be fine with getting a wireless NIC for the PC in the guest house.
If the signal strength is bad, either buy a 802.11N router (make sure it's N and not draft N, these should be available now or within a few weeks (nov 09), or buy another access point and connect it via ethernet to the main access point. you only want one modem and one gateway generally speaking.
