CD won't "catch" in older Bose Wave

I have an older Bose where you have to lift the top cover to put in a CD. For a very long time now, I have trouble getting CDs to play. It seems like the machine does not "catch on to" the CD. Sometimes, it will "catch" after several minute- sometimes not.
I love the sound and the radio works fine. Any suggestions of where I can get the CD player repaired or any ideas of something I can try myself?
