If you format the hard drive NTFS format you should be able to install Windows XP. If the computer is old, the hardware may not work with Windows XP. Any computer built in last 8-9 years should work with Windows XP.

- If your version of Windows XP is old, it may not have the necessary drivers to support the hardware on your machine. It's not a matter of being legal, it's simply a matter of having the drivers. Another thing you should try is enter the BIOS (Press F10 on startup) and run the Hard Drive Self-Test. You may have a bad hard drive. If that's the case you won't be able to install any Operating System. As far as your rating of my answer goes, there was nothing inappropriate about my answer. You may not agree with answers here on Fixya but given the limited information you provided, (you didn't say exactly what the error popup you got) any answer you get is merely an educated guess.
You're not saying what sort of error you're getting? BIOS on d330 does not have any limits on whichever operating system user wants to install. I've had d330 running various operating systems with no issues. Your d330 might be some hardware problem however. First things I would try would be checking the hard drive and memory. Good luck, Raf

- What error are you getting? This would be the most helpful piece of information we need.
As observed form your issue. There might be multiple possibilities for your problem.
Is your Hard Drive a SATA hard drive?
If yes then ordinary windows XP cd is of no uses. This is because windows XP does not recognize a SATA drive. While installing the OS, it will stop in between and give you compatibality error.
If you are getting the same error then, you should try to install form a windows xp OS which is built for installing on SATA hard drives. Or you must try to upgrade your Bios settings. This will help you out.

Umax 2200 usb scanner & Vistascan 3.55u in Windows XP Scanner installs to the default XP scanning software, but I have not been able to install the scanner so that it works with the Vistascan software. I much prefer Vistascan as it is much more user friendly & offers more flexibility. Any help would be appreciated.

I have an HP Compaq d330. Yesterday it worked but today the "on" button only produces red blinking lights instead of the usual green lights. The light on the right blinks 3 times over and over. The computer will not boot up or make any sounds. I'm afraid that it got zapped by lightening last night. Could a lightning strike in the area cause the computer to do this? Is all lost? Could it be possible to get my documents off it even if the computer itself is dead? Yikes! Thanks so much!
