I have this problem. The receiver is well ventilated and on an expensive Belkin AV Master surge protector / voltage regulator. I don't expect heat or uneven power to be the source of the problem.

So is there a way to get the stereo to work again?

  • dimatuma Dec 31, 2008

looks like my DR-S2.2 is toast. It can't get past POST (Power On Self Test) and turns off after two seconds. I've tried all the solutions posted for this issue. How much is it to have it serviced?

I have the same problem with my DR-S2.2 shutting off after about 2 seconds. It appears to be a common problem with this unit. I need to know if anyone has a specific answer. I have tried the easy solutions including cleaning/ dusting the interior components. Help.

I am trying to hook me DR-S2.2 receiver up with some existing speakers I found in my new house, but can't seem to get the center speaker to work. What mode does it have to be in so I can see if the center speaker works?

Sounds like you have uneven flow of electricity. Try to plug the receiver in its own power socket

also make sure it has plenty of clearance for airflow b/c the receiver is shutting down to stop further damage of the receiver either b/c of heat or power surges.

good luck

Hello Todd, I would not suggest trying to repair this unit yourself. I suggest an authorized service but it might be difficult getting parts. Thank you, Onkyo USA

Onkyo ht-rc180 standby light blinks will not start.i tryed factory reset, still blinks

The amp protection circuit has been activated. Remove the power cord from the wall outlet immediately. Disconnect all speaker cables and input sources, and leave the AV receiver with its power cord disconnected for 1 hour. After that, reconnect the power cord and reconnect an input and a pair of speaker wires onto the unit. If the receiver still does not turn on than you will have to bring it in for service. Turn up the volume and if the receiver doesn't shut down, power off the receiver and add another pair of speakers. Power up the unit again and turn up the volume. If it doesn't shut down, power off the unit again. Now connect all your input sources and turn on your receiver. If the unit shuts down again, your unit will need to be further serviced at an authorized Onkyo service center.

I have an Onkyo DR-S2.0 dvd Receiver that will not turn on. That aside I'm trying to find codes for the remote in order for it to learn my Philips tv and my Yamaha stereo receiver. The remote is a RC-437M....

Can't help you with the turning on problem, but the remote doesnt use codes to control other devices it learns the signals from that devices remote. heres a link to the users manual:

Onkyo HT-SR800 won't turn on

If you call Onkyo directly, 201-785-2600, there is a procedure to "reset" the system, something like holding the power button on and holding down another button for a few seconds. Can't remember which, so I can't be sure, but try giving them a call.

Onkyo DR-S2-2

Have already posted this fix: Most common failure is the audio amp IC, reference # Q5001, which is an STK402-950 (Onkyo Pt. # 222123). Typically fails as a result of excessive volume levels or as a result of problems with the speakers or their wires. If you're technically inclined, the part can be had from various vendors & is fairly straightforward to replace once the complex disassembly required to access the PCB this IC resides on is accomplished, using standard soldering skills. A repair of this type by a reputable servicer may be more effective for non-technical folks, as typically can be accomplished for $200 or less, much less than replacement cost...

Check the spekers first maybe one could be in bad conditions or the audio amplifier IC are about to get damaged.

CORRECT SETUP CODE FOR RECEIVER

Originally Posted by 3FingeredGlove viewpost.gif We can make this work. You didn't mention which setup code you're using, or explicitly say whether the OK/Select button is red or gray (the manual you're using is for gray), so these are somewhat generic instructions. Should work, though. This will provide a power toggle function to the Power key.

Use red numbers for the red OK/Select button remote, grey numbers for grey button remtoes.
Temporarily assign setup code 30842 or 0842 to AUX
1) Tap AUX
2) Press Setup until 2 blinks
3) Enter 30842 or 0842The remote should blink twice

Assign NEC1 IR protocol device 210, subdevice 108, function number 203 to Power (you don't need to understand these numbers)
1) Press Setup until 2 blinks
2) Enter 994 (2 blinks)
3) Tap Setup
4) Enter 00051
5) Tap Power (not All On)
The remote should blink twice

Assign setup code 30135 or 0135 to AUX (this is NEC1, 210.109)
1) Tap AUX
2) Press Setup until 2 blinks
3) Enter 30135 or 0135
The remote should blink twice

Code for Verizon FIOS remote Control

I have a solution which has worked well for me. It uses the DVD button at the top of the remote. It was a trade-off as none of the codes in the RC144 Philips remote will work any Blu-ray players, so the DVD button was unassigned. The 922, 955 and 977 codes are explained in the directions for the FIOS remote. http://onlinehelp.verizon.net/consumer/bin/pdf/philips%20rc1445302%20user%20guide.pdf
1. Set up your TV button to work your TV.
2. Set up your Onkyo code, pick one to turn on the receiver. I used 3719
3. Use the 9-2-2 code to cycle through all available codes. At about a count of 300 I found one which will turn the Onkyo receiver off. Make sure you start this process with the ONKYO receiver already on. Once you find it press the OK button.
4. Use the 9-7-7 code to power all devices TV, AUX and DVD from the power button.
In this way, each time the power button is pressed it will send both the power on and power off signal to the ONKYO receiver.
This technique works well when you point the remote at the ONKYO receiver and press power button. Apparently the TV has better reception for the signal then the ONKYO does.

DR-C500 problem with turning the system ON

Make sure all power connectors, cords and plugs are inserted securely and that the outlets are in good working order Be sure to select an audio source (CD, AM/FM, etc.) For powered systems, unplug the power pack for a few seconds, and then reconnect it. This allows the unit to reset itself after a power surge or power interruption. good luck!
