My 2 year old sons played "drummer boy" on the knobs of the Viving Designer Series cooktop and now they will not turn. 2 of the 4 popped back and work but the other 2 did not. Tried turning them but no luck......... will not push down and pop back up like the others to engage the gas. The ignitors will turn on but will now turn on gas.
they must be bent....look around the knob make sure you have an equal amount of space betwween knob and stove...if not, try to carefully bend it until the knob straightens up....

I have a 1987 General Electric cooktop (JP656) and exhaust hood (JV655004AD) with the burner controls located at the front of the hood. One of the large burners stopped working and swapping the burner unit with the other large one showed it to be fine, so I assumed the burner switch had gone bad (I have previously successfully replaced other switches on this unit to solve the same condition). I purchased a replacemnet switch and a spare to have on hand from an applicance dealer. They were not the same switches which I had previously purchased from him and was told that these were the replacements now available for this unit. I removed the old switch, carefully identifying the wires as I removed them, and installed one of the replacements. As soon as I turned the new switch on there was a loud 'pop" and the breaker tripped. I compared the wiring connections to my labeling and the other 3 working switches and all appeared to be correct. Assuming that I had received a defective replacement switch, I installed the spare switch only to encounter the same thing, with the addition that the "burner on" light came on and now remains on all the time, even when the three remaining functional burners are turned off. At this point I believe my original problem was probably in the burner control and not the switch. I can do the necessary repairs once I know what parts I need (and provided I can get them), but would welcome any advice on specifics I should be looking for. Thanks!
