Just installed the Epson V300 scanner but when I switch on the scanner I get a message that it is not communicating with the computer. The hardware is shown in my device manager list.
First check Epson site for latest driver for your operating system. Try turning on scanner before the computer is turned on. It could be old driver on USB chipset from Intel needs update. A normal problem I have encountered in the past with Epson Scanners

Can't install Epson perfection v300 on windows vista home premium 32-bit. The scanner works great on Windows XP, but it simply refuses to install properly on Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I have installed/uninstalled/wiped the registry/reinstalled the software and it will not recognize the driver. It shows up in the Device Manager, but the driver simply will not be detected. Trying to load the scanner manually through the control panel (scanners & cameras) will not even bring a list of scanners when pointing it to the actual driver with Have Disk option. Epson tech support sends me instructions in their replies to do what I have already done repeatedly, and the last set of instructions was to look for solutions with emz file extensions. Emz file extensions are of meta graphic files which were from the error message screen captures I c&p'ed into the email I sent to them...which is not my problem at all!
