Can i extend my wireless connections?

I have a compaq presario V6101US laptop and I have been fortunate to pick up my neighbors connection but I recently moved and I only get one connection that I can get on to, but some days I can get on and some days I cannot. The other connections are secured and asks for a code. Someone said that I have to buy a wireless card where i will be able to get access anywhere but they said theres monthly fees and that they are expensive. I went to Best Buy and some chick told me that I can buy a router but they also have monthly fees?Im trying to avoid spending money right now so is there something else I can do to expand my wireless connections? If theres a way please let me know the cheapest way to help me because I start college in 5 days. Broke single mom needs your assistance, thank you [email protected]

Ask your college if they have WIFI access available. Most colleges offer free WiFi access on there campuses. Ask the IT department about this. You might have to buy an adapter for your computer but it would only be a one time thing. Hope this helps.

I do not know about any software that can do that. I've heard of buying some kind of antenna that boosts it. I would suspect those cost lots o mula tho.

Wireless do not work

You may have to update the drivers,

Click Start

Right click "Computer" then click Manage

Wait for screen to load up then click device manager and locate the wireless card. see if it is there if it has an exclamation mark then you will need to update or install the drivers.

Another problem could be that being HP it usually has some kind of software that monitors and manages the wireless connections. click the little up arrow on the bottom right hand side to see if there is any wireless connections manager running and open that up. Windows tries to handle the wireless side itself but also HP make their own software to handle it also

I use windows 7 for my pc which is of the model presario v6101us. I have problem getting the drivers for its coprocessor.

you will have to identify each hardware and go to that website and get drivers for the same, it will consume time and cannot be offered in a one line solution, what you can do is give details of the hardware in your pc and will try to locate the drivers and give you the links
Cheers till then !

Hi i have compaq presario f500 laptop am unable to connect to wireless network. downloaded drivers still had same problem please help me

There is no simple answer, you will have to follow a procedure to hook things up.
Your wireless access point will have to be setup first, and then you will have to setup your various devices (like your Laptop) too.

If your are doing this all your self, web search for: "wifi connection tutorial"

If you got a "wireless router" from your Internet provider that might have a technical support number you can call to get help.

If you are trying to connect to an existing wifi like "Hotspot" at Starbucks or something you will need some kind of access code/key.
And maybe someone there will be able to help you.
And, or, web search: "How to Connect to a Wi-Fi Hotspot"

Worse comes to worse and you don't know the difference from "Wifi to Elbow" you could probably pay for local technician to come out and set things up for you (typically from $50 to $100 an hour).

If you are setting up your own make sure to get at least WEP (WPA is more secure) so your neighbors can't easily leech your wireless.

HP Compaq Presario V6101US Notebook PC' push the

There are several reasons why this could be happening. Below are a few diagnostic steps we can start off with to eliminate some possibilities. If there is anything you are not comfortable with doing yourself please consult a local repair technician.
  • Remove the battery from the system and try booting up the computer with only the power cord. The "1" in the diagram below is the battery, "2" is the battery release latch.
  • Try removing one of the memory modules (if there is more than one) from the system by following the below steps.

1. Flip the computer upside down. Remove power cord and battery and ensure the system is completely off.
2.Unscrew the compartment labeled "4" in the diagram below. This is where the battery is held, as well as the WiFi card and motherboard battery. DO NOT do anything to these other components as they are quite fragile.

3. If there is more than one memory module you should remove one. Replace the compartment cover and attempt to boot up with battery and power cord reattached. If nothing has changed try swapping out the memory with the one you just removed.

If still nothing happens, this is not the issue. Comment back and we will move further with your case.

Good Luck,

Do you know for sure there is a wireless connection in the area you trying to connect, Wireless internet isn't accessible every were and when it is available it could be protected by a security pass phrase. My neighbor's signal

If your neighbors know that your using their router, you might ask them to reset it. If they moved it, this could cause the weakening of the signal, walls drastically decrease a wireless signal. You might also refresh your wireless card by uninstalling the wireless drivers and reinstalling them.
