Question about Flat Panel Televisions

1 Answer

HD Problems When I am on the HD channels, sometimes after awhile I will get snow, or a green screen, or just colored lines across the screen. Sometimes its after 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 2 hours, and sometimes it might work just fine.  And sometimes the audio works, and sometimes it doesnt.  Usually, I have to go behind the TV, unplug it and the HDMI cable, and then it will work OK again... but then who knows? It happens again in 5, 10, 100 minutes.  Ive already got a new HDMI cable, so I know its not that.  Its either the TV or the cable service.  Any suggestions????

Hi it sounds like you have multiple problems with your tv. First you said that there were no digital channels. The tv has a bad signal board. The second problem is the colored line running across the screen. That could be two things either the screen itself is bad or your t-con board is bad. The t-con board would be the cheapest of the two to try. You can get parts from

Lines across screen

If the lines are slightly diagonal and in red, blue and green you have a problem in the ABL circuit. if the lines are only one color you may take the front grill cover offf and remove the panel. look fro the black box 2 inches square with 6 little controls on it. 3 are for focue 3 are for screen the middle on of the screen is the green adjustment the other 2 should be labled r and b respectivly. what ever the color of the line turn the control labeled screen and r b or g for that color ever so ligtly counter clock wise.

Green line down left side and geen snow

Horizontal or vertical bars on the screen could be from an ac line interference, adjacent magnetic field, bad input wire connections.....especially HDMI connector cables. A bad HDMI cable causes all kinds of unwanted picture interference. Check the conditon of all connection wires for proper fit and function. Keep in mind the method in which you connect your tv will result how the tv performs. As well this line problem could be a circuit issue too, requiring a technician to look at it.

What kind of connections are you using?

If component (red, green, blue) double check to make sure they are seated properly. I'm thinking it sounds like the blue one got loose.

sharp is very aware of the panel and main video processor problems. They should give you no problems on the repair. It sounds most likely you have a main video processor problem.

If the lines across the screen are made up of coloured blocks, then the problem is likely to be a weak signal.

Digital channels are broadcast in groups called multiplexes. Sometimes one multiplex may have a weaker signal than others, and so you experience problems with up to 6 channels when all others are ok.

If it is only one or a few channels then just wait and see what happens, because it may be transmitter works.

If you have problems with all channels it could be a connection or antenna problem.

If the lines are just straight lines, then try resetting the TV as follows:

Switch on the TV

Press and hold the menu button on the side of the set. The settings menu will appear. Hold until the menu disappears again.

When you release the button, the TV will take up to about 90 seconds and then reset.

The TV will then show the original screen when the TV was new.

Press ok when shown.

Set language and country settings.

Move down the list and press ok to re-install all channels.
