Generic problem for all Operating Systems

I attempted to install service pack 2 five years ago and my system crashed so had to reload from cd. Since then I have ignored windows update. However I now want to install a expansion portable drive but am having problems could this be because I do not have service pack 2?

Search Google.com for:

mass storage device driver xp

Service pack 2 was MOSTLY security updates and should NOT be the problem you are having.

Yes, some Portable Drive requires to Service Pack 2 installed in the Computer to detect it automatically.

Install the Service Pack 2 in the Computer to resolve the issue.
