Question about Toshiba SD-3950 DVD Player

1 Answer

Works fine, then no picture.

We were watching a new DVD on our Toshiba 3950 thru to the end. We ejected it and put in a dfferent DVD. Now we have no picture and only sound - no matter what DVD is inserted. Cables all check fine.

Actually - the fix turned out to be simple. My wife accidently pushed the "progressive" button on the remote in between the DVD's getting swapped, which must have put this into that mode, where no picture, but sound was getting thru. We fiddled with the remote and pressed the button again - now all is fine. Thanks for getting back to me though!

I had the same problem. My 2 yo son must've pushed the progressive button and no video. Pushing the progressive button again solved the problem. Thanks FixYa! (and Google)

Purple and green color only

If you replace the video cable with a new one and it works, it's because the cable has a break in it.

If a replacement cable has the same problem, the break is inside of the DVD player and it will need to be serviced or replaced.

I put a dvd into player and watched it then when i was finished and pressed eject, the dvd wont eject on laptop

Either go to my computer and right click on the drive then to eject or you can use a pin to insert in a tiny hole by the eject button on the drive itself.

Put in dvd and it spins and churns and then just says "loading error". Everything was fine a few days ago!

These units when the glass laser eye lens is dirty and needs to be cleaned with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab, or the laser circuit or motor is faulty and needs to be replaced.

FYI...the best suggestion I've seen is to hold the channel up and play buttons simutaneously....thereby causing the machine to return to the "factory initialized" state. So far so good for me. We'll see. photog1

System constantly re-booting

While this post is very late to answer this question, here is where I found a solution with the DVD still inside. When I used this solution, the whole system reset and worked.

"I had the exact same problem tonight. I put in a DVD and it locked my Toshiba RS-TX20 up. It simply wouldn't respond to anything but unplugging. Then it went into this infinite loop of trying to power up.

I finally got it to boot:

Hold the eject button on the unit continuously while it boots up (be patient!). It didn't open the tray until a couple minutes into the powering up process. After I took out the disc, it booted up normally at the next try.

I am guessing that there's a very small window during the booting process that the dvd drive isn't locked and you have to push the eject button in that small window to get the tray open. Since we don't know when the drive is unlocked, the best bet is to hold down the eject button continuously.

I hope this helps!"
